The Royal Anchor
- dave (30th Jun 2023 - 10:07:09)

I have recently noticed how overgrown the area that adjoins the pub car park and Longmoor Road pavement by the layby has become; it is significantly encroaching on the public footpath to the point of being an obstruction. I have also noticed there is a nest of rats there! I have checked on land registry and this land does indeed belong to the Royal Anchor so perhaps it would be nice if they could get the overgrown shrubs cut back off the path. I am sure this would be a good way (and beneficial for the community) for the money they have collected in parking fines to be used. I know one could argue the pavement is the local authorities responsibility but that would mean using taxpayers money when the problem originates from privately owned land!

Yes and all the weeds around the front and in the chestnut tree surround looking quite shabby such a shame the place is going downhill used to look lovely.

I used to live on the Headley Road years ago and I had a call from the council to say that someone had complained about trees and hedges on my property encroaching over the pavement (head height) so I can confirm that it is definitely the land owner's responsibility. Obviously I did rectify this and no rats were involved ;-)

I guess you could maybe have a word with the landlady in the first instance?

Might I suggest that one of you makes time to discuss this with the manager of the Anchor.

Paul if we can see it and quite a few others why can’t the landlady see it.

There used to be lovely hanging baskets around the front nothing now. Notice food only served from 11.30 to 7.30 is something going on.

Yes quite a few business shops etc have weeds growing around their establishments they seem oblivious of their surroundings such a shame, remember Don Cook shoe shop he used to sweep all around his shop and pavement every morning before he started. Some do take pride look at the old post office next to the cinema a credit to the square. Times have changed.

If we're talking about things in the square looking a mess, isn't it time Gables had a look at themselves the window displays look like they were last changed in the 70's.

Pete, I think you are missing the point of the original post!

Re: The Royal Anchor

Not really Ian general look of the centre of the village and all that. Think the thread was going that way anyway please see post above mine. Madhuban could do with lick of paint also.

Re: The Royal Anchor
- dave (30th Jun 2023 - 16:02:25)

The point I was making was about the obstruction, not the appearance. I don't think any other business is creating an obstruction of the local pavements or generating fines for alleged misuse of their land, and then not maintaining their land. I would add I blame Greene King central admin rather than the manager (who I would hope has flagged up this to her premises dept)

And then there is the entrance to the village fronting the Bohunt Manor Field. That is a disgrace and the owners need to be reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure that the entrance to Liphook is kept tidy.

B Mannor please explain exactly what you mean is it Portsmouth Road from Newtown road or what field do you mean . Thought the Portsmouth Road into liphook was quite pretty.tree lined from Bohunt manor drive into liphook.

I think the poster means the field next to the driveway facing you coming out of the station road in Liphook. I do not see that
place particularly as the entrance to Liphook in my opinion driving from the A3, the London road is more of the start of Liphook.

Just wondering what he meant because I think we have six roads leading into liphook so you could say they all are entrances to liphook. Really don’t think liphook is to bad lovely flowers not to much litter the community do a good job it’s just some business don’t seem to look around there areas and clean up they seem to think it’s someone else’s job . Lib do a fantastic job trying to make liphook look good but they are all volunteers so can’t do everything. Still think liphook is a wonderful place to live.
