Bohunt bullying and teacher
- A. Penny (6th Jul 2023 - 21:43:29)
Have to put this on to gauge people's opinions about Bohunt and the awful disgusting behaviour of bullies and a few teachers. A member of my family is a pupil and has received no help at all and the bullying has continued. The welfare teacher acts like they are cool and down with the kids! Ofstead need to go in now with the governors and stop this now.
We need to do something NOW.

Bullying has been gong on for years, so much so that I know a child who was bullied relentlessly and nothing done. She had to have home schooling and missed out on so much, even now she will not walk around Liphook.

I’m sorry to hear your family member is having problems and I hope it gets sorted out soon.
I have had three children through the school and we have had a good experience to date and most of the teachers have been absolutely lovely and generally helpful and caring. I think most people we know would say the same thing, so I’m so sorry your experience is different. Wishing all the best to your family member.

A Penny-you didn't "have to" put this on here at all. All you will achieve will be to start the usual petulant bickering with posts from people who have a grudge against what the majority in Liphook think is a good school. Accusations of bullying are usually subjective. What exactly are Ofsted supposed to do?

Sorry to hear your difficulties although my experience quite different. My son was being bullied at Bohunt and the school dealt with it very effectively and firmly. Still the occasional issue with kids being horrible but the targeted and relentless bullying stopped quite quickly.

I imagine Ofsted would look at school records of bullying but if the school are not recording them properly then they may not be able to do anything. It could be more effective raising it with the school governors.

Bullying is very subjective, I see on TripAdvisor that even the manageress of The Royal Anchor has been accused of being a bully. Social media forums are probably not the best place to seek a resolution. That being said, if a child is being bullied it is heart-breaking for any parent and one can understand if that frustration leads to some projection of those feelings.

Bullying is the overlooked hatred that damages societies.
I understand you must never rush to judgement with only a third party account, so I'll speak only generally about my feelings on bullying in society.
My normal instinct would be also to try and resolve things officially, however if a family feel they aren't receiving the solutions they hoped for and have to watch as their child is allegedly harmed then what is the advice?
Bullying is the same trait that spawns all hatreds, racism, sexism, etc you name it, for that reason it is insidious and should be clamped down on from an early age, it seems to happen mostly in schools, our teachers are presumably trained to deal with it and we should expect them to get this right, one child harmed is one child too many.
It's not easy, children seem to enjoy bullying more than adults do, or maybe many child victims haven't yet learned how to 'deal' with it, so the opportunities to practice cruelty are higher in a school setting, either way it's a very real thing and it can be destructive, I don't know if this country is worse than others, but it seems to be a part of growing up here and learning the wolf pack mentality!
That it only happens to the 'unlucky' few may seem to make it less of a problem, or even the 'fault' of the bullied child not yet having developed sufficient nous (deal with it, fight back, don't worry the bullies are just insecure, it's them not you, learn to cope better, change, etc etc), but harming the minority is a very slippery slope and no excuse!
In this day and age I would hope that we are making it a priority to save children from bullying (either on the giving or receiving end). If we feel a school couldn't, for whatever reason, successfully stop our child being bullied, should we remain silent (that after all is what the bullies tell the kids to do, keep quiet or else), should families cry out for help and advice from 'society' or do we just 'trust' the experts will make everything all right, what would you do?

Funny old times back in the fifties when I was at school the last two years spent at Petersfield secondary any bullying was dealt with by our physical games master ex army instructor. He would take you to the gym into a boxing ring and make us face up to each other he refereed after that we were great friends no more bullying. If the lad was a big person he would go in the ring and invite to be hit they could not lay a glove on him made them look stupid that worked as well.
Why can’t the parents of all parties be made to sit down in a room together with a teacher and thrash it out then bring in the culprits and tell them the bottom line .

Russ sometimes these days it is girls - would you advocate physical fisticuffs then?

Joe I realise that , that’s why I said get the parents in a room with a teacher thrash it out and then get the culprits in a give them a proper dressing down with the parents approval next time expulsion from school they need to come down hard on or there is no point.

The welfare do not try to be hip and cool and down with the kids. They are a phenomenal team who do their very best to support the students.
And bullying in the school is dealt with very seriously. Processes have to be gone through, but all accusations are looked into.
I have never had anything but positive experiences with the school.
Bullying happened in EVERY school. Bohunt will do all they can to help and investigate it.

Wow, it's subjective! What a load of crock. Even had videos of them doing it, but hey just an opinion. People are so blind and I prey you never suffer from ' subjective ' bullying.

You wanted to gauge people's opinions - now you think they are old crock (whatever that means). I think you just wanted to see if people would support your own view.

Well said Passfield Resident. Totally agree if people ask for honest comments and opinions then they should not be derogatory if the replies received don't suit their own agenda.

Penny - obviously the subject is upsetting but it is not good lashing out at people who have a different experience or opinion and accusing them of being blind and talking crock!
Perhaps reaching out to engage with those parents who have had a more positive experience with the school would help you and your child resolve this situation?

Bullying at the academy? Surely that sort of thing only happens in state comprehensives. I was only bullied once, gave the perpetrator a bloody nose and it never happened again.
Teachers aren't allowed to discipline children at school, parents aren't allowed to discipline their children at home. A huge chunk of children's education and upbringing was lost through covid. Now the children have to deal with the hassle and emotional stress of teachers disregarding their education in favour of going on strike demanding ridiculously high pay rises.
Of course this is all going to result in behaviour problems.

D, Bohunt is a comprehensive school - it is not a grammar school or a private school. Teachers going on strike does not have any bearing on bullying behaviour from pupils. I may agree with you on bullying stemming from parents not teaching respect good behaviour and politeness to all other people from an early age.

D-your views on education are sad-in what way are parents not allowed to discipline their children? Do you mean they aren't allowed to hit them? Some parents can't be bothered to discipline their children, but that's a different issue.
