Loss of Lloyds Bank?
- Lorac (19th Jul 2023 - 16:51:07)

I have heard talk (maybe a rumour) that Lloyds bank is to close at some point in time, or soon even. What is the truth behind this and will this mean we will have only one atm at Sainsbury's and at the co-op? Dealing with financial problems on the internet is a nightmare, so losing a human face to help sort out matters financial is another bug-bear of modern life. It seems that computers rule, ok!!

Yes, that's correct. It's due to close on September 21st, I believe.

Lloyds bank have informed their customers that the Liphook branch will indeed be closing, with effect from 21 September 2023.

A bank is a business and a business is about making money.
If they can sack a few humans and the rent for the building and make more money then they are going to do if.

Online banking started 36 years ago and was mainstream within a few years so not really any excuse.

You thinks it’s annoying now you wait till they sack the humans on the other end of the chat lines to AI then it will really be crap

The way things are going, probably safer.

As mentioned on previous posts, both Sainsbury’s and Tesco have announced they will be going cashless by end of 2025 (Sainsbury’s website, sub menu, ‘the way forward’). The writing is on the wall for cashless society:-(

I think that there's an online (ironically) petition going on to retain the cash option, look it up. Cash option is not just convenience; cashless means helpless, the power to control money is taken away from the individual.

Postings above: Yes, banks are businesses but they are also part of the State. They are partly owned by tax payers. They are used by the State and similar authorities to charge and (scarcely) pay us individuals. A person without an account is a non-person (see recent news). Banks should be held to much closer regulation and do much more to entertain what the account holders, tax and fee payers want. Even if banks were indeed 'pure' business, they should still have obligations to be fair towards their customers (that'll be a shock for some businesses).

Back to Liphook Lloyds branch. The bank had pushed us all (account holders, businesses, bank staff, branch staff etc) online and had starved the work and functionality of the local branch. So by now, there is precious little left to loose. Let's hope they will come up with some alternative service (e.g. Post Office or "hubs"), but I'm not holding my breath for decent service or value for money.
