Optimistic but not so gullible:

Thanks

Do you mean the egrets? They usually come over winter in Radford Park

I thought I saw a pair over Midhurst back in the early Spring, though they were very high, definitely not kites or buzzards by the flight pattern.

Flying inland NE.

I contacted the BTO who said they could have been

Not recently, but about 2-3 years ago, just south of Redford.

It was fairly close and there was no mistaking it. Huge bird of prey, far bigger than a buzzard with a fan like white tail.

I was not aware back then that this was even possible in the area so when I got home, I googled it. I found the eagle release project website and they published the satellite maps of their flight paths (I don't know if they still do this). Unfortunately, I could not find the eagle I spotted on their maps. Perhaps they don't publish all of the eagles or they delay release of the data.

If you are really interested in the attempt to re-establish this glorious bird the following link will tell you pretty much everything, wonderful man, wonderful project.

It is just tragic that people still deliberately shoot and poison them.

It is quite a long read.
