EU worried
- Russ (29th Oct 2024 - 10:07:23)

I see VW in Germany are closing three factories and reducing wages. A freeze on wages for two years.

Something this government could have thought about perhaps the train drivers and civil servants could take a pay cut instead of borrowing billions and pushing us further into debt.

A German friend of mine is an engineer at VW. One of his biggest challenges is the demand the plant has for electricity. It can't be met by green methods. Green energy is costing VW significantly, there is little appetite for their cars (due to price and net zero demanding EVs which many drivers don't seem to want), and they are unable to compete with cars subsidised by China.

A couple of years ago Germany decided it would turn off all of its Nuclear Power stations in favour of generating electricity with environmentally friendly wind turbines.

The power stations stopped and someone suddenly realised there were not enough turbines to take up the slack. The conversation then went like this …….

“We need to build more turbines …. Quickly!”

“How many do we need to build?”

“500 a year for the next 5 years”

“How many can we build?”

“50 a year”

“Whaaaat!?!”

“What shall we do to get more electricity? We can’t turn our nuclear stations back on and we’ve already made our statement against that awful way of generating power”

“We’ll have to buy power from another country, we can get some from France.”

“Great, problem solved”

“Errr ……. we’ll not quite. Most of France’s power comes from nuclear.”

“Damn!”

“It gets worse, we’ll have to pay much more for their electricity than it cost us to generate our own!”

Awkward! So if you think that our Government cocks things up, they’re not alone!
