Bike Ride Update
8th June 2003 - The LiDBA Bike Ride is fast approaching, preparations are well in hand, are yours? The Boat Race, the London Marathon, Easter, have now all passed and one of the next targets is for the hundreds of participants who have entered previous Bike Rides or are first timers, to either to start, continue training or just turn up on the day and be part of a great fun day!
By now you will be seeing the bright yellow posters in local shops, post offices, pubs, clubs, newsagents and hear broadcasts on local radio, informing you of when the ride is on and how you can apply for registration packs, either collect a leaflet from where you see the poster or apply on line at www.lidba.co.uk. The bike ride starts at 10AM on Sunday 8th June 2003 from Bohunt School, so please remember that Liphook Square will be closed to traffic from 9.55AM till 10.20AM when all riders have ridden through.
The riders are a mixture of all ages and standard, from the 'ELITE RIDERS', the ‘ENERGETIC’ –‘HAVE A GO’ – ‘I’LL FINISH RIDER’ – I’M GOING TO RAISE SOME MONEY FOR ** i.e. the other 800+, who will cover the 25 mile circuit from Liphook, to Rake, Rogate, Milland, Lynchmere, returning back to Liphook and the supervised JUNIOR ‘off roaders’, who will cover as many circuits of the playing fields at Bohunt as they can.
Please support this local fund raising event which is in its 13th year and has enabled local charities, support groups, community clubs, scouts, to name a few, to raise over £300,000 since the first ride in 1990. Last year 51 local charities took part and raised in excess of £40,000 for their respective causes. We need every rider to get as much sponsorship as possible, even if it is only a pound from friends or family. Every little bit helps. Suggest to your friends and families that they join you in a Team. Groups from offices, shops and factories, parties from pubs and clubs will be having fun, getting exercise and supporting their local community.
One of the main unsung sponsors and long standing supporters of the LiDBA Bike Ride is Owens Cycles from Petersfield, who from the start in 1990 has supported numerous riders on the day with their mobile repair service. To reduce the number of disappointments on the day and to ensure that as many riders complete the ride, Owens have offered a ‘FREE VISUAL SAFETY CHECK’ for your bike, so if you want to take advantage of this offer, take you bike to Owens Cycles from now till the week before the bike ride itself plus they have also offered to continue to support the ride on the day! On behalf of the hundreds of riders they have helped over the years and many more to come, the members of LiDBA give our sincerest thanks.
