Chondana-Indian Restaurant
- Sudha Rai (8th Mar 2013 - 10:35:11)
Hello,
Does anyone know why this restaurant is closed?
Is it shut for a refurbishment?
This means we now have only the Gurkha Chautari in Station Road for a decent curry for all the locals.
Don't forget to book your table for Sunday,Mother's Day.

Nice advert, LOL. Other restaurants are available in the area - Village Tandoori, for instance. Full list - here

The main difference is that the Nepalese have the gurkhas and the Himalayas, that swings it for me.

India has the Himalayas as well, as does China for that matter.

Good point liz. But Nepal has the Sherpas, which is probably what I meant!

According to the notice on the door it is going to be "Madhuban 2 Takeaway".

Yes the Madhuban at Liss who own the building are opening up a takeaway and delivery service. Should be open in the next couple of weeks.

I have seen the sign, but was wondering if it will be takeaway only. It doesn't say restaurant so I assume it will only be takeaway/delivery, but I am hoping they will have dine in too!

I have lived in the village for 14 years and been a regular customer of the Chondona throughout. It has most certainly had its ups and downs but recently just didn't seem able to move with the times and I never really understood how they made their money. Except to say it is/was linked to Chilli Nights in Weyhill.
I think the Madhuban has to be good for Liphook. It is a strong and successful brand locally. I believe it is only a takeaway to start with and not sure if it will even have a license. But there's a lot of space which can be used in that premises and I am guessing it would be inefficient not to use it all.

Will be interested to see the prices - I think the Madhuban is now overpriced for what it is. 6 years ago the curry there was a breath of fresh air but recently it's been generic in terms of quality so the Chondona was cheaper and just as good in my opinion.

I have been a customer of Mudhaban for more years than I care to mention and as far as I'm aware their food has always been and still is way ahead of other Indian resturants in the area. I for one am delighted they are opening the take away in Liphook and more than happy to pay a bit more for a premium product. Even better if they could open an eat-in resturant as well!

I only moved to the village a couple of years ago and as it looked grubby on the outside I never went in. I will give it a go when it reopens though now I've heard such good things about it.

Susie
Just to be clear - the restaurant is reopening under completely new management. If you have not found the original Madhuban yet (in Liss), it's worth giving it a try!

I've always had good quality, value and service from The Village Tandoori in Station Road and would recommend them for take-away curry.

The Tandoori is the most fantastic Indian food I have ever eaten.
If you have not tried it you are SERIOUSLY missing out.
