Builder recomendations
- Mark (8th Apr 2004  08:06:50)

Having just received the report back from a survey done on a house in Liphook I am now needing the services of a local building contractor.
There is a problem with rising damp where the damp-proof course has perished and needs replacing.
The chimney stack needs attention + other less urgent jobs.

Can anyone reccomnend a builder that could do this work to a good standard and reasonable price?

When I bought my house I wanted to put some oak floor down but the damp levels by my patio doors were too high and I had to get it fixed before the wood people would continue.

I phoned Baker and West who I have used on several occasions and they sorted the problem. I have had a fair bit of work done by them in the past and have always found them excellent. They even clean up so well after themselves that I'm embaressed that I must live in a sty and wish they did the whole house.

They are on the Longmoor Rd 1a I think. Sorry can't remember the phone number.

Ian Baker's one of the good guys and if he can take the work on, you'll have no problems.

But I know Ian's been winding down on bigger jobs, and if you want another really good local builder, then speak to Nick Sellito. Nick and his brother Frank built my house and did a brilliant job. They tend to do new house builds more than repairs, but often have gaps in schedules and take on smaller jobs at short notice.

Nick's on 0947 302 650 during the day and his evening number is 01428 727973.

Chris Sawkins is excellent - has done some first class work for us. John Carver too - but John gets very busy. Both in the phone book.

I've known Frank Sellitto for years, played footy with him at Liphook and various teams before he retired. He is a top top bloke but he's always pretty busy.

I know an excellent builder so I'm going to share him with the rest of you. His name is John Stalski tel: 07776-188559 and he has recently moved near here. He has several teams of people who have all been trained in the old apprenticeship way and are very, very good, especially at the little details. They are particularly good at fitting bathrooms and kitchens. My husband has used them for his clients for sometime now with good results.

So if you speak Polish give John a ring ! - No seriously they all speak good English.
