Recommended Builders
- Mark (6th Aug 2013 - 06:41:35)
We're looking to have our house extended and are interested in builders you would recommend based on your experience. Planning is in place so just need to get some quotes in to see if we can afford it!!
Thanks in advance

Hi I always use Alan Wakefird 07702 218004
Has a good team of workers & I think a good price!!
Watch out lots of builders will give u a estimate which
is a rough idea, but Alan will give you a quote which
he has always stuck too unless I have asked for extras
to be done!!!
I give him 10 out of 10
Good luck Steve

I would definately recommend Alan Wakefield aswell. Works very efficiently and never has any trouble with my requests, no matter how awkward i am! His team are second to none when it comes to quoting for a job. He will give you a fair price for the job you ask for and doesnt EVER put in any hidden extras. The price you are quoted will be the price you pay. I have dealt with Alan for many years now and always return to him with any work i need done no matter how big or small the job is.

We used Orb Construction to build an extension, new kitchen, electrics and plastering and were very happy with them.
Once we sorted out all the required work and he gave us the final quote it was what we ended up paying.
Give Chis Crowhurst a ring on 01428 751849 or check out www.orb.gb.net
Would also always recommend getting at least 3 quotes and remember the cheapest might not be the best value for money.

I'm sure there is good and bad with everyone, but I know Alfie Haynes personally and he is a great chap who has come a long way and runs a successful business.

here here! a genuine guy with a great workforce, turns out some great work, give him and the others a chance to quote and see what happens, mind you its not always wise to go for the cheapest, usually accepting the middle price is good practice. Good luck.

Nadine
I'm sure Alfie is fine with you as a friend. Trust me he is far from friendly if you find fault with his work.

- Lucas (10th Aug 2013 - 16:46:58)
Hi
I do not want to turn this in to a row but we have found Alfie Haynes and his employes nothing but curtious, his work has been excellent and we have used him on three occasions. He is good value and very tidy.
Going back up the thread about kings bury builders if you want to see his work visit his own house on the berg it has been a compleat mess for over a yaar and of very poor work standard

Re: Recommended Builders
- chris (10th Aug 2013 - 18:33:16)
remarks about Kingsbury builders is a bit out of order. If you look at the work there is nothing wrong with it. You wouldn't by chance be a resident of the Berg estate would you?
this thread is supposed to be about recommending a reputable local builder you have first hand experience of. Those that have experienced builders have voiced their opinions.
Those that haven't should keep their opinions to themselves.
Why don't those who have made recommendations offer their houses to show the originator of the request for a decent builder so he can make his own mind up on who to invite to tender. that way you can rule out any friends or relatives on any builders possibly making the recommendations.

- dave mc grath (10th Aug 2013 - 20:27:11)
ok, with regards to kingsbury builgers work you are well out of order slagging him off. he like alfie is a good builder and works to a high standard, the reason for the delays at the berg is that it is his own house and he is carrying out the work as and when time and funds allow. Don't knock him you don't even know him, also have the guts to put your name to the posting or stop posting negative comments. yoy don't know what you are talking about.

Has anyone dealt with Les Knight & sons builders? they appear to be doing most of the larger building work on the Berg. Construction seems quick but I haven\'t seen the final result.

Re: Recommended Builders
- Kevin Snuggs (16th Aug 2013 - 11:07:03)
Firstly, I would like to thank people for the positive comments which have been posted on this forum about myself and my company "Kingsbury Home Improvements Ltd".
Secondly, I would to address "Lucas" re; his posting on 10th August -
Lucas, if you have had concerns about my property and the quality of my workmanship, why did you feel the need to express yourself on a forum behind a name and not come in person and knock on my front door to discuss the matter.
I would personally like to invite you to come to visit my house to look at the works which are currently underway. You will then be able to see for yourself the high quality and standards which I work to. I would also gladly give you details of my client portfolio, whom I know will happily give reference for works which have been undertaken for them.
I feel it is extremely unfair of anyone to criticise any workman or company without having any first hand dealings with them.
Do you know me? No.
Have I worked for you? No.
Unjust comments made on a forum can seriously affect a business and in turn a family - so please think Lucas before you act irresponsibly and libellously again.

I've often found that builder's houses are being rebuilt on a permanent basis. If you live near a builder you'll know what I mean. I know of one painter and decorator who has been working on painting his front door for years. It may look unkempt at first sight but when you look more closely you can see that it has been very carefully prepared for the next coat of paint.

- Adrian (29th Aug 2013 - 21:51:06)
Hi all,
I was surprised to see this thread and criticism of Haynes. They have very recently finished fairly large internal structural changes in our house and we were really impressed with the quality of work and demeanour and friendliness of their staff. It was clear from the quotation stage that Alfie really knows his stuff as he pointed out things that other builders did not - primarily the reason we chose Haynes for the work. In addition , his admin team, especially Nellie, are really helpful with coordinating such a extras work during these project. We were really impressed!
