Station Road
- Perplexed (26th Nov 2013 - 11:49:13)

Well, just had a flyer through the post, Majestic wine opening up in Station road. Is this in the old Carpetbaggers, opposite General wine co. General Wine had looked after Liphook for many years and are not over priced so why do we want another wine store, surely a butchers, shoe shop or something similar missing from Liphook would be better.

- Really??? (26th Nov 2013 - 13:33:13)

Are you sure it's not a flyer for the new Majestic Wine on Station Road, PETERSFIELD???

The Petersfield Post last week annouced that the Majestic Wine Company will be opening this Friday at Station Road Petersfield where Focus used to be so I think you may have misread the flyer.!!

Yes sorry must be entering the senior years as that is a senior moment.

Surely an opening functioning shop is better than an empty shop?

We use to have a butcher x 3, a veg shop, 2 bakers and at one time I believe there was a shoe shop, almost all of these have closed in the past 30 years due to lack of use.

So whilst it might be nice to say we want these things, no one actually uses them. I guess this is mainly due to the fact that most people just drive to sainsburys or when it was open gateways, the other little shops don't have anywhere to park and the short version of this is that everyone is to lazy or not got enough time to walk to each different shop.

It was brilliant in the summer when liphook was closed due to all the roadworks and everyone was out walking to the shops talking to each other like a real community.

Maybe the answer is a ring road round liphook once the bohunt manor site is all built on and then pedestrianise the square and be done with. Apart from when it's carnival of course.

Carpetbaggers (the old carpet shop) is being converted into a veterinary clinic with the vet living upstairs. Whilst I wish the new occupier the best of luck it is a bit of shame that it is not retail!

Does anyone have any more information about the possibility of a vet practice opening up?

I would have loved to see a butchers in Liphook, it would save me time and money going to Petersfield or Haslemere for my Sunday roast.
