Liphook desperate to bounce back and focused on long-term goals
- Henry Ascoli (12th Dec 2013 - 21:45:24)

Hampshire Premier League match preview
Liphook United v Overton United
Saturday 14 December, 2pm, Recreation Ground

DESPERATE to tackle a sudden slump in form and keen to focus on long-term goals, Liphook United return to league action with a tough clash on home turf this weekend, writes Henry Ascoli.
The boys in blue face a daunting task as they aim to get back on track and close down the leaders of the Hampshire Premier League pack once again.
Overton United have not lost in the league since September and triumphed 3-1 in the reverse fixture; their recent results include a 4-1 victory over Fleetlands and a 2-0 win on the road at Liss Athletic.
Liphook scored 15 goals in three games during a fine run of form which allowed them to soar to the league summit, but a thumping defeat at Locks Heath and a draw with Hedge End Rangers has halted their progress in recent weeks.
Also, a surprise defeat to Alton Town Reserves in the Hampshire Intermediate Cup last weekend served to highlight the key areas for improvement across the pitch.
United assistant manager Pete Oliver believes his side must rise to the challenge and rediscover the winning formula: “This will be a very tough game, but we’re looking forward to the challenge. The last couple of games, we’ve been very complacent and lacked composure in front of goal – this week we need to put things right.
“Every individual in every position needs to make more of an impact on and off the ball.”
Striker Steve Harding also believes clinical finishing will prove key to Liphook finding their form once more: “We need to put in a performance this weekend. I didn’t think we played badly last week, but just made a few errors and were punished straight away. Plus, we failed to take chances in front of goal.
“I’m confident that we will put this right on Saturday – three points are vital if we want to keep the pace with the leaders.”
