Fibre Optic Broadband in Liphook

I was shopping around tonight for a better broadband deal, and went onto BT's site. It now tells you the broadband speed you can get. However, I was quite pleased to learn that the Liphook telephone exchange is currently under evaluation for faster fibre optic broadband! However, the scheme is dependent on government funding. Has anyone else heard about this?

Nothing heard about fibre optic broadband upgrade of the exchange, but my BT broadband speed has suddenly shot up to almost 10mbps from the 6/7 I was previously getting.
So although it is not fibre optic yet they seem to be doing something to improve the present system.

We've also noticed that in the last week or so we can now get almost instant connection to the internet...before it sometimes took almost 5 minutes...

Hello,
there has been an ongoing campaign which has been on here a couple of times.
If you go to
www3.hants.gov.uk/broadband.htm
you can sign up to Hampshire's campaign to get faster broadband.
From reading the page my interpretation is the more signatures, the more likely and more quickly we will receive an upgrade.
The outer lying parts of the village still only get 2-3 mbps so although the village centre is getting faster not all of us are within reach, therefore sighing the petition is a good thing.
Only takes a couple of minutes.

Under evaluation is an improvement on the last time I checked about 6 months back as the BT site said there were no plans. Shame virgin media won't come to the village as they do offer a great alternative and as a previous customer I'd have no problem switching.
