car washers at sainsburys
- oscar (28th Dec 2013  12:06:40)

I was just wondering if anyone else is getting fed up with being harassed every time they go to sainsburys? I am thinking of complaining to the shop manager... Anyone else got any thoughts on this subject ?

Re: car washers at sainsburys

it seems nearly every car park you stop at you get asked
getting a bit out of hand.

Not just Sainsburys

seems odd when sainsburys have there own car wash , I wonder if they get a fee or percentage from the washers ??

would be better if they had a area where you could park IF you wanted the car washed so they leave the non washers alone.

You really only have to say a polite no to them, after all they are just trying to earn a wage and they don't hassle you.

Go to sainsburys at least three times a week and have no problems saying no thank you to a nice smiling car cleaner.

I think it is a real shame we don't have a good car hand wash in Liphook. I use one in Woking and the people who run it are brilliant. They do inside and out for £11.00

Of the dozens of times I have stopped there for weekly food shopping the car wash guys have not asked me.

Sainsbury's are just offering additional benefit to their customers, which is come back to a sparkling clean car. Saves you time and effort. If you don't want to take it up just a polite 'No thanks' is fine.

Totally agree with Nigel

- DML (6th Jan 2014  22:04:09)

Car washing isn't at the top of my list of priorities so my car is absolutely filthy - I've been hoping to see these chaps so I could finally get it cleaned but I think I must have been parking in the wrong bit of the car park as I've not been approached so far, so today I went and parked right next to them. They were extremely polite and did an exeptional job on a VERY dirty car - all for £6. They then came back when I'd put my shopping in the car and offered to put my trolleys away for me. How anyone can complain about these people trying to earn an honest living is beyond me.

Having read this post for a while i can only conclude that the original statement was made in haste. I often have to explain to my children that the English language is progressive (if you start with "hate", you have nowhere to go. Maybe "hassled" should be replaced with "asked"?

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Jackie (7th Jan 2014  06:34:19)

To be fair to the original poster, the car washers have been removed from another Sainsburys (in Alton) due to high volume of complaints from customers.

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- oscar (7th Jan 2014  12:18:50)

After reading all the posts i still stand by my original post. If I want religion I go to my church, if I want my hair cut I go to the barber if I want my car washed i go to the car wash !!. I go to Sainsbury's to get my shopping not for someone who can barely speak English to hassle me every time i go there to wash my car..

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- P Weyland (7th Jan 2014  14:33:29)

A great business idea, spoilt only for me by the fact I can actually wash my own car.

Never understood it, much like the people that used to stand at traffic lights in London a few years ago, offering to wash your windscreen. Most cars have a windscreen washing facility built in - there is no need.

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- liz (7th Jan 2014  14:39:07)

Oscar

I wonder why they "hassle" you and no-one else!! They simply ask everyone else if they want their cars washed.....

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- DML (7th Jan 2014  14:42:45)

'Would you like your car washed?' - asked politely with a smile.
'No thankyou' - politely with a smile.

Such a hassle.

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- A. Ryan (7th Jan 2014  15:47:39)

Just to throw a spanner in the works... with the amount of water that seems available to them I would think attempting to clean the underside of the car would be impossible and ,.with the weather we have had and the amount of muck on the road, cleaning the underside of the car would be quite a necessity Making it look all shiny is only part of a clean. A good hose would not go amiss.

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- David (7th Jan 2014  22:58:33)

Oscar,

Not meaning to escalate this "post" but the world moves on. I remember a time when I had to find a telephone box to dial 999, a time when you couldn't buy a pint of milk after 6 at night, a time when people only worked from 9am to 5 pm and God forbid , a time when my ever decreasing personal time was spent trapped in a "silver", "gold" or "platinum" world of spinning and paintwork scratching rubber brushes.

In short, "the world moves on". Embrace it and learn to say no thank you with a smile :)).

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- H (8th Jan 2014  09:20:58)

I think that they do not hassle people but when one is shopping it does become tiresome to constantly be asked. I would take issue with the honest living as I am sure they are working for gang masters or if not I doubt that they are registered for tax or national insurance purposes

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- liz (8th Jan 2014  10:19:13)

H - Gangmasters? No tax? Perhaps you should be sure of your facts before making such allegations.

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Diane (8th Jan 2014  10:56:38)

Has anyone i.e Oscar checked with Sainsbury to see what the situation is.? They allways seem very polite to me

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Grant (8th Jan 2014  11:23:05)

Long may the service continue, these chaps keep my Chelsea Tractor Gleaming.
Pop in for a few canapés before the school run and my Landy is looking great.

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Marty B (8th Jan 2014  21:41:38)

IF it turns cold and freezes will they have Dancing On Ice at Sainsburys car park?

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Nigel (9th Jan 2014  09:05:18)

Gangmasters?? It would seem to me that Sainsbury makes a bob or two from these guys for using their car parks; no rent no space sort of thing. If that is the case a big supermarket chain would want to be sure the operation were above board.

Now, whether the grafters earn enough to pay tax is another matter.

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- jo herridge (9th Jan 2014  10:29:14)

I have no issues with these car washers. They approach me, ask if I would like my car cleaned, if I do I say yes please how much and if not I say no thank you and they say ok. No hassle for me, they are just trying to earn a living in my opinion

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- H (9th Jan 2014  17:24:43)

I do not think sainsbury have anything to do with the employment status of the people it is a private company employing only casual labour who I do not think you will find have the same status as people who pay tax and National insurance. I have a relative who lives in the heartland of Lincolnshire with casual labour in the agricultural fields and the system is this one Rumanian or Bulgarian sorts out the jobs and accommodation and the workers are paid a pittance through one person taking the inflated overheads out first. There have been many exposes of this on the tv and radio. It has not come just from my imagination. If you think they are working for sainsburys or somehow keeping all the proceeds you give them, that is not the case. The forecourt car cleaners are similar to the workers in Lincolnshire

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Jo (20th Jan 2014  19:33:27)

I'm with Oscar, I don't want to be asked if I want my car washed every time I visit Sainsburys. Same as I don't to be asked whether I want photos taken every time I enter/leave sainsburys when that company is there.....

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- paul (21st Jan 2014  21:48:17)

Hi,

What is wrong? is it not normal service in a retail area to be asked "can I help you" etc. These car washer guys I'm sure would rather work in their home countries with their families. They cannot afford to do so, they provide a service here instead.
Good luck to them.

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Paul Robinson (22nd Jan 2014  07:27:53)

Although I have never used the Sainsburys car washers, when they see the state of my car I think they feel it would be a challenge and thus I am rarely approached.

However, I have on several occasions witnessed them collecting up trollys that have been abandoned by shoppers in otherwise unoccupied parking spaces and for that I believe we should all be grateful.

I agree Paul

After all they are only trying to make a living and that's hard when we've had all this rain

I'd say BRAVO to them

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Finchie (25th Jan 2014  10:11:18)

They are good for Sainsburys ! I want my car washed today (which until now was impossible within a 20 mile radius), so will be heading there with what will be an hour wait. I'll no doubt will buy booze, DVDs (probably that we've already got) and then buy a coffee and a cake to read FHM and Nuts I've just bought. I would buy razor blades, if they ever had them in stock.

Finally, fill up with petrol on the way out while picking up whatever is on offer in the "bargain bucket" (a USB charger, torch, summer hat).

I hope Sainsburys are paying the car washers to be there. Say there are 10 people like me every weekend, spending £100 (don't ask - it's mostly petrol !!). That's an extra £1000 Sainsburys get they otherwise wouldn't have (I don't normally go there unless divorce is threatened). Who knows their profit, but they should be paying the car washers at least £50 to be there.

Everyone's a winner !

Just sayin ....

Happy Weekend, Finchie

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Ian S (25th Jan 2014  11:37:24)

Ah, I'm not the only one then that noticed Sainsbury's never have razor blades in stock!

Agree as well, car wash very useful, I've never been approached either, just go over and ask, nice public service and I don't have to worry about my roof rack or a wing mirrors!

Re: car washers at sainsburys
- Hole in my bucket (25th Jan 2014  12:22:02)

it is a franchise run by sainsburys simple fact

so they pay sainsburys for the franchise

you scrub my back etc etc

must go the hardware shop and buy a new bucket for all these leaks

I wonder if trevs got a sponge ???
