Liphook Fibre Optic Broadband
- Ken (3rd Jan 2014 - 23:11:37)

Just looked on East Hants website and it seems there needs to be enough interest for the county council to put the money forward to upgrade the exchanges for fibre optic broadband in Liphook. There is currently 250 votes of interest but the Liss and Greatham area have around 290 votes of interest. If visitors of the site could register their interest it may strengthen Liphook's chances of getting faster more reliable fibre optic internet, in the village and around the outskirts of the village.

Done. Very quick and easy. Lets hope it comes to something.

I can't believe there are only 250 people who would like faster broadband in Liphook. Are some people already getting better speeds here ?
We are funding the Hampshire program through government taxes but as the contract is with BT unless we shout we'll probably be left out.

Come on you lethargic Liphookians get with it and fight to be part of the 95% promised higher speeds rather than become the dregs left without modern access to the world.

Done, lets keep spreading the word.

Can anyone get a notice put up at the schools or other places people might hear about it?

I've alreay signed up, but I'm actually getting a reasonable speed anyway from BT. We're on Longmoor Road (Square end) and I get around 17Mbps. Not quite fibre speed, but good enough for most things (and faster than I used to get in Central London).

Well done everyone, seems we have just over 300 votes now, so we have just overtaken the Liss / Greatham area. If anyone has a spare minute feel free to sign the petition. Don't forget BT infinity doesn't just affect the speed of your internet, it can increase the number of packages village residents can sign up to. For example, the BT infinity TV package with the cable channels.

Liphook 319, Liss 389

Come on Liphook, pull your fingers out ! At this rate we'll never get a McDonalds on station road.

Cheers, Finchie

PS just kidding about the McDonalds for all you sensitive souls out there who might not get my warped sense of humour !!!

Finchie that's not funny....we should get the KFC first.

It seems to allow more that one registration from the same address / phone number so get the rest of the residents in your dwelling to register too.

Although most fail to explicitly request it, research suggest that 9 out of 10 pets would prefer faster broadband as well. You may have to register them on their behalf though.

Have registered and hope it comes to something. We could all benefit from faster speeds bearing in mind internet is the way of life for personal and business circumstances.

Done - that's 340.

Would love to register, unfortunately I'm not able to. I assume it's because my house, whilst still being in Liphook, is technically in West Sussex, despite being connected to Liphook phone exchange.

I wonder how many residents of Liphook this applies to?
