Good jogging routes
- Sarah (10th Aug 2009 - 11:20:45)
Does anyone know of any good running/jogging routes or free running tracks around the Liphook area that a lone female would be comfortable running on?
Preferably something 2-3 miles long or a repeatable loop.
Many thanks

I like jogging from the sofa to the fridge. It is safe, dry and if I do it enough times for wine top ups, I think I can really feel the benefits!! If I do venture outside, I tend to jog my usual school run route which is quite well lit and fairly flat and comfortable distance.

For a repeatable loop, the obvious one is Radford Park, but for 3 miles you'll need to do it a fair few times. You could extend this by exiting at London Road, turn right, over the A3 and then through Bramshott (Church Road, Church Lane then Tunbridge Lane) to come back into the village down Headley Road.
Otherwise, I've known people do Devils Lane, Chiltely Lane, cross over MIdhurst Road and down the footpath on the right hand side just after Highfield Lane to run towards Miland through Liphook golf club. Go as far as the Black Fox, stop for a pint, and return :P
I find www.mapmyrun.com helpful to work out distances etc too.

You could try the public footpath/lane leading from Hill House Hill to Conford. If you head north and over the A3 flyover on the Headley road and continue until it becomes Hill House Hill, just at that point is the entrance to Hill House Stables, Aston Wood etc. on the left. The gravel lane is safe and will eventually lead to Conford Hamlet and beyond this to Conford Moor and back onto Hilll House Hill. It is used a lot by joggers and walkers alike. Alternatively you can turn back once you get to Conford Village Hall. Might be worth walking/running it with a friend first to get comfortable with it.

I used to jog the perimeter of Liphook when training for an event last year.
Basically from Headley Road by the A3 Bridge down to the Avenue, along to the end, then left up to the square along Longmoor Road, right and right again out of the square along the Portsmouth Road, left at Station Road then left at the end (Midhurst Road) towards the green and Sainsburys, back into the square and then right along the London Road, up to the Hewshott Lane junction where I turned back on myself and then right up Tower Road and right again up Tunbridge Crescent.
Turn right at the end and you are back where you started, about 3 miles.
The good thing about this route is that it is all streetlit so you can still do it in the evenings when it gets dark!

Hello
Many thanks for all your replies and help (any more ideas still appreciated as well). I will definitely be trying a few of those out to see what feels comfortable. I used to jog a lot but haven't for a few years for various reasons and wanted to get going again, so this has been a great help - no more excuses!!
Thanks again

Sarah,
If you would like a jogging buddy for safety I would be very happy to run with you. I am a beginner but have a basic level of core fitness - just not running. If you are interested let me know.I know some good routes where I walk my dogs.

The Bramshott route is good, just need to take care for the cars where there is no pavement between Bramshott Church and Tunbridge Lane.
To plan routes, a good website is www.mapmyrun.com - a google maps site that allows you to pinpoint where you are heading whilst working out the miles and calories for you

Hi Everyone,
I have just moved to the area with my boyfriend and I was thinking of starting running. Even though I vaguely know where the places are that everyone has mentioned it would be great if there was someone to do it with. Does anyone know any running clubs that run in the evenings?
My email address is mholiasmenos@yahoo.com if anyone has any information.
Thanks everyone :)

Hi Marina
I go to Surrey Fitness Camps on the Liphook recreation ground and there are plenty of runners who also attend. The first two weeks are free so why not come along and meet some fellow runners and find the best route for you? I can't run long distance anymore due to knee injury but used to run around the Woolmer Range which is a great off road track.
Monday and Wednesday nights at 7.30pm during August, have a look at thei Facebook page.
Good luck
Catherine

Hi
Anyone interested in a local running club should come along to Haslemere Border Athletic Club (www.hbac.co.uk).
Myself and a few other members are from Liphook. There's a mixture of abilities and we run a beginners group too. There's runs on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and most Wednesdays.
Anyone interested in triathlon is also catered for as we have an active tri section as well.

We had 4 ladies running through our farm today, on the public footpath, who are all part of a running club up at Woolmer Hill...meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7. They said they are not serious, not competitive and it's all for fun. I'm really slow but I'm going to give it a go.

It turned out that the club was the Haslemere Borders Athletic club. I went, and it was great fun. I was atrocious but everyone was really supportive and inclusive.
Will certainly be going again and would say to anyone who is nervous, don't be, it is not competitive and they make you feel as if you've done really well anyway!
