Railway Open Day
Liphook & District Model Railway Club is ending its 40 years celebrations with an "Open Day" to be held at the Liphook Village Hall on Saturday 29th October 2005
The "Open Day" is intended for those considering taking up model railways as a serious adult hobby. The club will have their 0, 00 & N gauge layouts on display & from time to time operating, but unlike a model railway exhibition the members will be working on the layouts & chatting about what they are doing to anyone who's listening.
The new 4mm scale 00 gauge layout Weyford on Sea which represents a typical Southern Region coastal terminus in the 40/50's, is at an advanced stage of construction & members will be working on buildings & scenery during the "Open Day" . Hopefully this layout will be exhibited complete at a forthcoming Midhurst Show.
The 7mm scale- 0 gauge layout, which was first shown at the Midhurst Show in March this year, represents a typical GWR/SR joint cross country, secondary main line loosely based on the Didcot Newbury & Southampton line.
Friends from the Gauge 0 group at the South Hants Model Railway Club from Fort Widley, Portsdown Hill will be assisting in shoe-horning this layout into the hall & bringing along some of their stock to operate. Work on model buildings will also be in hand.
The club's N gauge team will bring along a modern image ( diesels etc) layout & will "preach" to anyone about the benefits of modelling in this scale. The team regularly exhibits at local & N Gauge Society exhibitions & is therefore well up to date on all the latest in this scale.
There will also be a number of display boards to give information on the many aspects to the hobby, including historical research using Liphook station as an example & details of the numerous specialist societies available for the novice & expert alike.
Tea coffee cake & biscuits will be available throughout the day at modest cost & there will be plenty of opportunity to chat model railways & watch some trains go by.
Open from approximately 10-30 till 4-00 pm ( Closing time may be slightly earlier to allow for clearing hall before road closures on the day) Entry £1
