Model Railway Club
The Liphook & District Model Railway Club has been invited to show its new 00 gauge layout \"Weyford on Sea\" at the forthcoming Midhurst Modellers Show.
Members have been working hard since their Open Day in October 2005 to add further details & enhancements to the layout.
The layout is of a Southern Railway/ British Railways-Southern Region, seaside terminus, based loosely on Exmouth, in a fictious geographic setting between Weymouth & Bridport.
There are local trains from Wemouth, Dorchester & Axminster & in the Summer through trains from Waterloo & via the Somerset & Dorset line from Birmingham & Manchester.
Steam locomotives are still the norm, because its the late 1940\'s or 50\'s & everybody goes on holidays & on day\'s out by train.
The main station building has been scratch built by the club\'s treasurerer, Eric King & is in a typical Art Nevo style favoured by the Southern Railway in its extensive modernisation works of the thirties. To compliment it, there is a \"glasshouse style\" Southern signal box, a goods shed, loco depot & WW2 government cold store & numerous other buildings & details.
The club\'s members look forward to seeing many \"locals\" at the show & particularly for them to see & watch the club\'s latest creation.
The club, which has been in existence for over 40 years, meets on every Friday evening between 8 & 10pm, at a private location about three miles from Liphook village centre & welcomes prospective members.
In addition to Weyford on Sea in 00, the club also has N & 0 gauge layouts & hopes to have a further Open Day at a local venue in October 2006.
Please contact the club\'s Chairman Martin Hill on 01428 741426 or its Secretary Andrew King on 01420 477665 for more details or talk to club members at the Midhurst show.
