Woolmer Ranges
- Sue Jackson (15th May 2016 - 11:46:19)

I'm about to move to Passfield and as I have a dog, was looking at places to walk him locally. The MOD land is within walking distance of my new house, but can anyone tell me what the access to it is like. I've found a lot of conflicting information - albeit some of it quite old - on the internet. Basically I want to know whether I can safely walk a) around the perimeter and b) on the footpaths inside at any time. Is there a website - that I haven't found - that will tell me? Thanks in advance!

Yes you can do the complete circuit. You can join it by going down the track to the east side of what was the Passfield Oak Pub just opposite the Passfield Common green. You follow the path down, cross the stream via the little bridge and then up to the army ranges.

There are lots of other dog walking places in and around Passfield as we are surrounded by National Trust land and there is a lovely walk through to Conford and you can also go up onto the army ranges from there if you want.

Yes you can walk around the ranges at any time.
However walking through them is only permissible when they aren't firing, for obvious reasons. You'll know when that is because they have huge red flags and red lights on the go when they are firing. It tends to be most weekends....

For a fairly detailed map. See post

Longmoor Training Area

Note the Woolmer track with the 10k loop has bridge works going on so you cant currently do the loop without going well off track, the bridge part is on at the 12 o'clock position of the woolmer map on that post.

Sue
If you want to do some local walks, I'm in Passfield and have 2 naughty Labradors. We could go out together a few times until you have discovered them all. There's lots of good walks on our doorstep.

email me if you want to set something up purplecurly@hotmail.co.uk

It's ground nesting bird season so please keep your dogs on a lead. Woolmer forest, Conford moor and Passfield common are home to some category 1 endangered birds.
