Liphook Concert
Liss Band returns to the Liphook Millennium Centre for a fourth year to present a concert on Saturday 8th March at 7.30pm in aid of St John Ambulance.
This
popular concert has become an annual event much looked forward to in Liphook.
Liss Band, with their new conductor, Michael Charles, will present a very
entertaining programme of Brass Band Music ranging from tunes from the shows
to classical.
Michael Charles was appointed Conductor of Liss Band last summer and is
working with the Band to expand repertoire and maintain the high musical
standards set by his predecessors. A local man, Michael delights in the Band’s
commitment to the community, and aims to foster this even further during his
tenure as Conductor.
The programme for the 8th March features many of the Band’s fine soloists in a
variety of arrangements, both popular and classical. At home with many different
styles, the Band will take the audience on a journey of entertainment from ‘Aida’
to ‘YMCA’, with plenty in between! The band is about to record a CD, and some
of the items from this forthcoming recording are featured in the programme.
The Vice Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mr Nigel Atkinson DL, will be attending
the Concert as Chairman of the Council of St John Ambulance in Hampshire.
The Colours of the Liphook Division will be brought into the Hall at the start of the
Concert by a Colour Party drawn from members of the Division in a brief but
colourful ceremony and taken out at the end.
The Concert is in aid of the Liphook Division of St John Ambulance. This is a
very active community organisation which provides First Aid cover for events in a
wide area around Liphook. These events range from M.A.D. Pantomimes in
Liphook to Orchestral Concerts in Petersfield, Motorcycle Enduros at Longmoor,
horse events at Bramshott Chase. The Division has 31 members who
volunteered for a total of 3,926 hours during 2007 and attended124 events to
provide First Aid Cover.
“This popular concert will once again be an absolute treat whatever your taste in
music.” said Dr John Tough, Superintendent of the Liphook Division of St John
Ambulance.
Tickets costing £6 are available from the Liphook Millennium Centre in Ontario
Way, 01428 723889, and from the Parish Office in Midhurst Road and will be
available on the door.
