Palls - Local Ex King Ed VII Nursing Service, finalists for NHS People's Experience Awards
UPDATE - PALLS won the coverted NHS People's Experience Awards last night (23rd April 2008)
NHS Award recognition for “Palls” Palliative Care Nursing Service as they announce the formation of a new Charity
Passfield based “Palls” Palliative Care Nursing Service has been shortlisted as finalists for the “Peoples Experience Award” by the NHS South Central, and invited to the awards ceremony at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford on 23rd April 2008. The event is for the South Central Regional Health and Social Care Awards 2008 and will be hosted by Dr Geoffrey Harris, Chairman of the Strategic Health Authority together with Yachtsman; Pete Goss MBE.
The nursing service came about from the untimely closure of King Edward VII Hospital in Midhurst in March 2006 and eight of the Palls team previously worked at the hospital. The service has since gone from strength to strength and now has a dedicated staff of 27 nurses and health-care assistants.
Jacinta Grange-Bennett, founder nurse and Manager of Palls says “We are delighted that our uniquely focused and specialised, skilled nursing service for adults who suffer from life-limiting illnesses has grown to bring continuity of care to patients in their own homes. We are thrilled that all the hard work and commitment of our staff to bring a sense of ‘extended family’ to our patients; their families and carers has been recognised by the NHS, as it is they who refer many patients to us. It is the NHS who have selected us as finalists for the “Peoples Experience Award”
Grateful families and friends of Palls’ patients have also recognised the wonderful work done by the nursing service. Over the last 18 months many donations and fund-raising events have led to the formation of a new charity, Hospice Services at Home TLC (Therapies Linked to Care), which has now received formal recognition from the Charities Commission who registered the charity on 3rd April 2008. The charity will be launched formally later on this year; in the early autumn.
