The acclaimed Solent Guild of woodcarvers and sculptors celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2008. Speaking and demonstrating for BLACS will be John Vardon, the Guild’s current Chairman, Pax Benger, current President and Alan Crockford, immediate past President.
They will discuss wood crafting including relief-carving techniques, and carving wildlife. We will also learn of the great Grinling Gibbons, Master Wood Carver to Kings Charles II & George I and feted by the likes of Walpole & John Evelyn. Gibbons’ exquisite work can still be found in Petworth House’s Carved Room, Windsor Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral.
