Lost/Found Pets Board
- Eneida Nelson (16th Jun 2011 - 08:30:07)

Having recently been involved with trying to find the owner of a stray cat, I was wondering if the PC would consider having an "official" board outside their offices, where people could place cards with details of lost and found pets in the Liphook area.

At the moment it's hard to know the best place to advertise this sort of situation to reach most people.

We have the option of posting on this site, of course, but not everybody reads it or even has a computer. We can also put notices in various shops, but again not everyone may visit them...so it seems to me that having one designated place might be of benefit.

Perhaps Councillor Hoskins can look into this :)

Hi
I would be happy to display a board in my showroom window
if that would help as we are in the centre of Liphook

That's an excellent idea Barry...since you are in the centre of Liphook and many people walk past your garage!!

We will have to think of ways of making people aware that's the 'official' board so they make it their first port of call...perhaps get the Herald to do a little article on it??

Surely the vets would be an obvious place? They often have lost / found notices up on their board, and if i lost my cat or dog I think I would go to the vets / cats protection league / pet shop which also has a notice board, before i visited the parish council or garage?!! Is this actually a problem that needs solving!!

I think you've just made my point for me Sarah!!

The Vet is in the Headley Road...I did look for a lost/found board there but couldn't see anything... Hiscock Pet shop is in Newtown and the nearest Cats Protection branch is in Haslemere.

There's no reason why people can't put notices in all these places as well, of course, but I thought a dedicaed board in the centre of Liphook would be seen by more people and be helpful.

However it was only a suggestion and I'm not going to enter into any sort of argument over it...

Hi Eneida,

The problem with lost pet stuff, is that they usually get left there long after hope is lost or pet is found.

However, I can easily make a request that notices given in could be put inside the Parish Notice boards if you like.

I believe the price tag for the last notice board was quite breath taking so I don't think a new one is on the cards - but again, if there is a call for it I can ask for you.

Even better would be for you to come in and raise it at a meeting. We are all very nice and welcoming to the public and encourage questions etc. (I hope that anyone who has been to a meeting since the newbies came on the council will tell you this is the case).

Is this lost and found board location about people that might be wondering round village on a sunday and would just happen to stop and read it. So surely the centre of village is ideal nobody actually goes out for an afternoon walk to have a look at the lost and found board thats out of their way (ok some people might). But you often see people stop and read the posters in the Garage window. Has anyone thought that maybe, as he offered, the garage might be happy to supply a nice board and maybe possibly advertised that the board was in the garage at no cost to the village after all it is one of the biggest businesses in the village. I find it strange that a business has offered its services for free and its not jump on with out delay.

Darren,

Yes...you've got it in one!!

That's exactly what I had in mind. People walking through the village, who might stop and look at the board and who might have seen a stray cat hanging about, read that some one's lost it and put 2 and 2 together. Sounds sensible and simple to me too.

I did actually reply to Barry's suggestion of having the board in his garage and think it would be an excellent place for it.

What does it matter if it's a place not usually associated with animals...thinking outside the box is sometimes the way to go :)
