League Champions
The Liphook Knights ‘U9’ youth football team ended the season in great style winning 4-1 at home on Saturday 16 May to become the NEHYL Under 9 Division Two 2008/9 Champions and secure automatic promotion into Division One next season. This achievement was off the back of winning the U9’s tournament at Beacon Hill the weekend before. A fantastic double!
The Knights who represent Liphook United FC have been in existence since October 2007, under the management of Jeremy Sharman and David McCusker. They play in the competitive North East Hampshire Youth League (NEHYL). The squad of twelve players have all contributed to a very successful season, which has taken in over thirty league fixtures along the way.
Liphook FC Chairman Nigel Marr congratulated the team saying “What a fantastic achievement after having to play so many games and keeping focus for so long. I am incredibly proud of our “Knights” and I was very grateful of the opportunity to speak to the team before their game this morning. They have continued a valued tradition of playing good, fair but highly competitive football. The players and their excellent management team are a great credit to our Club”.
Manager Jeremy Sharman was understandably ecstatic “It has been a pleasure to work with these youngsters. The Division Two title was just reward for the dedicated effort and commitment from all the players and the valued support of their parents. I’m so happy for everyone involved with the Knights and look forward to more good times with this team in the future”.
Proud sponsors Knights & Sons Security Limited are thrilled with the way the team has developed in the space of such a short time. As a reward for their great efforts this season, managing director Tony Knights is looking to arrange a Wembley trip to take the squad to see a schoolboys’ international. The sponsors have very close links with Wembley and sporting events generally through their business.
Congratulations to the Liphook Knights who now look forward to the League Presentations evening at Princes Hall, Aldershot on Friday 19 June, at which they will pick up the League trophy and winners’ medals.
