Air source heatpump boiler replacement - Jim (21st May 2021 09:20:34)
Hello All,
just wondered if anyone had recommendation for someone to replace our boiler with an air source heat pump.
I've tried a couple of places and had no reply, or they don't fit them.

We’ve just used a company called The Greener Alternative (01273 455695) who were really helpful and efficient.

Are you in a new build Jim?
If not don’t bother as it’s not just a case of swapping over. All your rads will need to be replaced because they will become undersized and you need insulation in every possible place going.
So your probably looking min £10k for it to work properly....... banning gas boilers in the next 4 years is a big mistake!

I have just had a whole new installation of an air source heat pump from James Graham at JRG Plumbing and am very pleased with the result. Si is correct that it is not so straightforward to just swap from gas to ASHP because the temperature of the water from an ASHP is lower than that of a gas boiler. Mine is a new build with underfloor heating and a few towel rails and it is plenty warm enough although the insulation level of the house is very high which does help!

Thanks for the feedback guys. We certainly aren't a new build so maybe this is a non starter but may investigate further to see the costs involved.

My house is nearly a hundred years old and there's no way it could be insulated as well as a new house. I have modern central heating which on it's own in really cold weather isn't enough so I have a wood burner as well. What I read here this airsource heating would be useless in my house. All so they can bung more planes in the sky.

We used IQTherm insulation for our 200 year old stone house. It is possible to bring old buildings up to modern insulation standards. It's just very disruptive and very expensive.
