 Charity gets funding
Lottery funding of circa £250,000 has been awarded to Bordon based Hospice Services at Home - Therapies Linked to Care TLC Ltd.
This is a charity with company status - for a 3 year project to establish a respite sitter service and to recruit and train 6 new complementary therapists, offering treatments to adult people suffering life limiting conditions in their homes.
The charity also delivers therapies to carers.
The need was identified through PALLS Palliative nursing and care service launched in August 2006 following the closure of King Edward VII hospital in Midhurst. This NHS award winning service was set up by the nurses whom were made redundant by the closure of the hospital. Over the past few years, whilst nursing patients in the community, the nurses and carers have recognised a gap in the support of families in need.
Due to the high standards of care delivered by the nursing service, donations were received from grateful families. These donations were put to good use by the launch of the charity TLC to further enhance end of life care to adults in the community.
As TLC has evolved, it has been recognised that additional services needed to be established to further serve the growing needs of the community - particularly as much of the operational area is rural and semi-rural and not covered by other services and charities.
TLC provides holistic care for the frail elderly and those suffering with e.g MS, COPD, Heart failure, Parkinson's, Altzeimers, Dementia, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntingdon's, Cancer and other.
This will enable the charity to launch a new service. Volunteers will be recruited and trained to support families and carers by providing essential 'me time' - offering a break and support from the 24/7 responsibility. Volunteers will use a befriending approach by visiting their families regularly, ensuring continuity of emotional and practical support.
Six newly recruited complementary therapists will offer treatments ranging from Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Reiki and the 'M' Technique which is of particularly benefit to frail people. The therapists will receive the 'M' technique training and will attend the Holistic Certificate in Palliative Care.
The Charity can also provide special Palliative products for enhanced personal hygiene not otherwise available through NHS sources, these greatly improve day to day quality of life.
The lottery will be funding 3 key positions for the 3-year period of the project - these will be advertised shortly.
The charity is very excited about the launch of this new project and the benefits that it will bring to the community.
