Deers Hut Classic Car day
- Barry (11th Jun 2023 - 18:01:00)

I know it wasnt on last year but does anyone know if its on this year?

No, ended forever. Got too big and too many people taking advantage by bringing their own food and drink and picnicking on the pubs grounds and not buying food and drink from them. Hardly anyone was putting money in the charity buckets either, it became a bit of a p… take.

I never went to this event at the Deers Hut, but I've been going on and off to car rallies for 40 years and we were always welcome to bring a flask and a sandwich, I wouldn't go anywhere without them, if it's a pub day out then no I would never bring my own food into a pub or it's garden, so which was it?

Honestly if it's too much trouble to put it on in a pub then lets get back to doing it in a field like the good old days, perhaps the true British classic car enthusiast is no longer appreciated as much as the champagne swigging Italian supercar driver:)

I recall attendees sat in the pub garden listening to the live music whilst eating and drinking their own sandwiches and drinks. It was always a charity event held by the pub with the proceeds/profits going to the Carnival fund

The event has had to stop due to the HUGE increase in the cost of insurance needed to cover the event - nothing to do with people having a picnic!

I really don't begrudge the exhibitors bringing their own food given that without their effort and expense there wouldn't be a car show anyway. Such a shame the very people who provide the exhibits free of charge are being made scapegoats for the event's demise.

Not sure why insurance costs would mean it had to stop -there are plenty of other car shows around that are still going

I think that a lot of car shows charge an admission fee ? They are not all free entry. Presumably it was not just exhibitors eating sandwiches and their own drinks on the deers hut benches but the members of the public too who attended.

Exactly Joe. The last event made a huge loss which is untenable for a business, especially when the event was designed to raise funds for charity
