Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Louise (12th Jul 2023 - 13:21:59)

My son’s black polo was driven into sometime between early evening yesterday till lunchtime today (12th July) whilst parked on the Headley Road (not far past the Co-Op).

The person did not leave a note but their car would be showing signs of damage and part of their light was left at the scene. We are currently approaching houses who have Ring doorbells to see if we can get any footage. If you have any information please can you let me know?

My son is devastated as the car cannot be driven and he uses it daily for work to save for Uni. This is going to cost him a huge amount in excesses and increased premiums.

Please call me on 07748 905350 if you can help.
Thank you

Louise

We now think this happened this morning around 9-10ish. If you saw anything or know if there are any cctv cameras please can you let me know.

Thank you. Any help is greatly appreciated.

- Gary (13th Jul 2023 - 15:29:28)

I’m surprised that more cars aren’t damaged on Headley road. The road it not really designed to be used for parking cars and also causes some awful delays and creates accident black spots due to creating an obstruction on the road. I assume that will be one less car we have to duck around while running the gauntlet up Headley Road!!

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- AF (13th Jul 2023 - 16:53:41)

Gary - thats a bit harsh, i agree that the road isn't ideal for parking (although it is legal), but where else do people in Headley Road park, most of the houses near the square have no driveways.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Local (13th Jul 2023 - 16:55:10)

We could do with more on street parking in liphook to deter traffic coming through, most of the traffic speeding through our village is through traffic. It’s time our people in charge ie councils did something about it . The speed of traffic now is ridiculous the 20 mph just disregard as for headley road the speed cars travel along it mind boggling the 20 limit coming of the square completely disregard. The avenue where there are two schools used as a rat run like a race track at school time cars speeding to Bohunt school and back running up on the pavement a fatally waiting to happen I hope it’s not a child.

Thanks Gary. I asked for assistance in finding someone who has committed an offence and left my 19 year old son with the potential of a huge repair bill. Would you have said that to my face I wonder? Probably not.

Gary, you are a plank!

Gary- act like a man and apologise

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Jack (13th Jul 2023 - 19:02:12)

Totally agree with Gary in that Headley Road is not suitable for on street parking. People parking cars on Headley Road do create traffic delays and cause safety issues with drivers having to accelerate past the parked cars on Headley Road and then having to swerve back into their lane before having a head to head with the drivers heading out of the village.

The planks are the persons creating the obstruction on the road and not the person pointing this out!

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Linda (13th Jul 2023 - 19:15:29)

Well said Gary, I’m an elderly driver and I always find it very stressful overtaking the parked cars on Headley Road. It’s very hard to see past them and there always seems to be a big bus coming against me when I have to overtake the inconsiderate people who have parked their cars on the road. I’m surprised there’s not more accidents due to the parked cars. I know it’s not illegal to park on this section of the road but it is down right inconsiderate for nervous drivers.

Thank you Gary as I feel sometimes when these issues happen everyone is far too quick to criticise the person who points out the root cause of the problem.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Louise (13th Jul 2023 - 19:38:21)

This matter is now resolved

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Oap driver (14th Jul 2023 - 10:34:42)

Jack and Linda I don’t wish to upset but if you can’t negotiate parked cars what ever would you do in a city with cars parked both sides of the road and single track. And if you’re that nervous you really shouldn’t be on the road.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Linda (14th Jul 2023 - 13:19:47)

I’m perfectly ok to drive I’ll have you know “oap driver”. Again I’m simply stating the fact that cars parked on Headley Road create a driving obstruction and considerate people who think about how their actions might affect others around them would not park their cars creating an in safe situation for others to overcome.

Is it now a crime to point out how others can be more considerate to others in the community.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Oap driver (14th Jul 2023 - 16:07:38)

Sorry Linda but you your self said you were a nervous driver, it’s not the root cause it’s the impatient drivers no different to Portsmouth Road . Most towns and villages around here are the same petersfield haslemere grayshott if you take away the cars in headley road it becomes a race track it’s bad enough now traffic in Liphook must slow down it’s getting ridiculous as local has said more on street parking will slow everything down and make drivers think they are travelling through a constricted area 20 mph should be extended further out on all roads with cameras.Sorry Linda but that’s my opinion not necessarily everyone’s but that’s ok .

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- ian (14th Jul 2023 - 16:43:11)

Sorry Linda, no-one is saying you have committed a crime, its just some are disagreeing with you.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- er (14th Jul 2023 - 18:29:30)

Glad to hear the situation has been resolved, I don't see where else nearby those residents could park to be honest!

Overtaking those parked cars needn't pose a worry if all drivers understood the rules of the road. Both nervous and over aggressive drivers mess it up. But as I see it, the main problem here is that a significant minority of drivers coming out of the village don't want to slow down or give way if they see you are overtaking, rushing drivers treat you as if you are on 'their' side of the road and shouldn't be.

When in reality no-one owns either side of the road! In this case you cannot overtake without moving into the right hand carriageway, so as long as you checked and it was clear when you started off, what more can you do but keep going, preferably with confidence and a bit of a acceleration if needed will usually get you out of trouble, you are doing nothing wrong. Even if halfway through, a car appears hurtling towards you, it doesn't mean he has right of way, you do at that point and he has to slow down and even wait if need be, if he tries to bully you he/she is guilty of careless or dangerous driving. Obviously to be reasonable you should try to pull back in if you can halfway but that isn't always possible This is about driving skill and mutual consideration for all road users which many have but too many don't. That's how I see it anyway.

While here I'd like to mention the increasing numbers who won't indicate on roundabouts and leave us all sitting there wondering which way they're going to go!

As I see it there are only 3 reasons for not indicating on the mini roundabouts:

1) You COULDN'T CARE LESS!
2) You had no idea why YOU should need to indicate anything to us (Range Rover and BMW drivers!)
3) You had no idea that you WERE on a roundabout!

Either way, perhaps you shouldn't be driving!

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Anon (14th Jul 2023 - 19:01:24)

er... if you are going straight ahead on a mini roundabout you don't signal i.e coming out of Longmoor Road, onto London Road - that's straight on... you only indicate if you are going left or right.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Oap driver (14th Jul 2023 - 19:13:32)

er so well put all about good driving. So many drivers haven’t a clue how to drive properly I have mentioned speeding but speed is sometimes necessary in the correct instance ie joining a motorway you need to get up to speed very quickly in other words put your foot right down to catch up to the car in front NOT dawdle . Anyway well said er .

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Beatrice (4th Dec 2023 - 22:18:08)

Why are people still parking on Headley Road and not using their spaces to the rear of their properties. I see another car was hit over the weekend!!
Keep hitting their cars and they might just move them onto their property and stop creating a hazard on the road for innocent road users.
10 points for a light.
20 points for a wing!!

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Parkingson (5th Dec 2023 - 07:44:28)

People should not own a car if they can not park it with consideration to others. If they must use their car then they should not move into a property which doesn't offer legitimate parking.
Many properties are bought with a garage but the residents fail to use it for all so many inexcusable "reasons".

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Ian (5th Dec 2023 - 09:55:25)

Beatrice, what an ignorant and stupid contribution. Many of the properties do not have off road parking and also where there are no highways parking restrictions they can park where they like (sensibly ideally). Perhaps some road users need to slow down, be a bit more attentive and less entitled!!

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Jen (5th Dec 2023 - 10:32:38)

Beatrice, where there are no legal restrictions, people are entitled to park their cars at the side of the road - and it is reasonable for them to assume that motorists proceeding along the said road will drive with the due care and attention expected of them. If a motorist's vehicle collides with a legally parked car, the fault lies entirely with the motorist.

Having said that, I've often thought that it might be sensible to have intermittent double yellow lines along both Headley Road and London Road, to allow for easier movement of traffic going towards The Square when there are a lot of parked cars. Currently there is often quite a long run of parked vehicles, which requires a completely clear road before it's safe to pull out around them (and on London Road one cannot see if it's fully clear because of the bend). If there were never more than 3 adjacent cars parked before there was a double yellow gap in the parking, it would enable drivers to pull in into the gaps and gradually proceed along the road.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Driver (5th Dec 2023 - 10:40:20)

We should have more on street parking as they do in other towns and villages Haslemere Petersfield Grayshott etc . If drivers cannot negotiate parked cars they shouldn’t be on the road a great deal of the traffic is through traffic possibly as much as 50% that shouldn’t be coming through anyway and they are the ones that are in a mad hurry causing the problem. Had a conversation with a parent in the avenue at school time just picking her children up the avenue was completely full cars everywhere she said she was from Horndean what ever are people coming from so far away to schools in liphook no wonder we have traffic parking problems.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Another driver (5th Dec 2023 - 12:33:43)

@driver - sorry, your post makes zero sense. It's as if you chucked together some random thoughts, a statistic, and an anecdotal comment and someone think you've made a successful argument? Very hard to follow!

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Driver (5th Dec 2023 - 13:23:46)

Sorry another driver of you had a problem understanding properly my fault. We have a massive parking problem in liphook so more on street parking would help the shops and businesses. We only have one small car park in midhurst road for central liphook .

As said through traffic is a major problem and causes congestion on all roads this needs to be looked at why is this traffic directed through liphook. When the bypass was built they said liphook square could be pedestrianised and put in flower beds and narrowed the road. So what happened traffic is still directed through liphook madness.

On street parking making it difficult to drive through might deter some and make them find a different way with long tail backs on all roads. As said about the school cars why are liphook schools taking children from such a wide area. ?? making more problems parking at the school time.

If something is not done soon everywhere will be at a standstill then there won’t be a problem because nobody will be going anywhere.

Re: Parked Car Damaged on Headley Road
- Driver (5th Dec 2023 - 19:43:36)

Moved a bit quick infants and junior schools. I would think that there is enough children in the close liphook area to fill these schools liphook is a town by population so I see no reason to have pupils from out of liphook. As said liphook does need a major looking at in regards to traffic.
