Can we have some clarification here. Last year we were told 2022 was to be the last Liphook Carnival, citing rising insurance costs and lack of volunteers. Announcements like this do not inspire people to contribute either time or money.

- Jon (22nd Aug 2023 - 20:56:30)

A bit behind the times D, it was posted on the Carnival Facebook page last November it was going ahead. Stop being a misery guts, there should be a great vantage point for you from the 1st floor of the soon to be vacant Lloyd's bank building if interested. Or maybe the basement where you can tap away in isolation and tranquility.

- D (22nd Aug 2023 - 21:45:51)

If it was decided last November this year's is going ahead then it was a very quick turn around. Whatever the reasons for making that claim I'm sure it's all very good publicity.

As Jon said D why are you so against everything the carnival committee do a fantastic job for our village keeping the carnival going more people came forward so hopefully it will keep going for years to come.

Re: Liphook Carnival Fundraising Walk
- D (23rd Aug 2023 - 13:26:21)

I am merely curious as to how immediately after last year's carnival, all of a sudden the following year's will be on after all. Surely that decision wouldn't be possible to make until later in the year following that year's fund raising events. No need for anyone to be rude.

Re: Liphook Carnival Fundraising Walk
- Jen (23rd Aug 2023 - 13:46:36)

D, I think one of the reasons why the committee was thinking that the carnival wouldn't be able to continue was because of a lack of volunteers to help run it. I was under the impression that last year, rather than see the carnival era come to an end, lots of people came forward to volunteer.

Re: Liphook Carnival Fundraising Walk
- Resident (23rd Aug 2023 - 15:58:35)

Perhaps D you could volunteer to help run the carnival or go on the committee or marshal on the night I’m sure they would love to have more help.

- Paul (23rd Aug 2023 - 16:13:09)

Honestly, we could play bingo with points awarded anytime some wit on here uses the passive-aggressive retort "why don't you volunteer yourself then" ....

Anyway. I'm only here to say there are people out there who avoid the likes of Facebook so it was entirely reasonable for someone to ask how and when a different outcome was decided.

(And no, I'm not volunteering, thanks all the same).

- Sam (23rd Aug 2023 - 17:28:36)

lol... you wouldn't catch any of the users on this forum expressing themselves in the same manner on Facebook.

For one they would have too hard a time maintaining there own 15 fake profiles and cryptic names on Facebook, nor would they be allowed access to any groups given all 15 fake profiles have no picture, no real name and no friends.

50% of the user here are responding to themselves having forgotten which post they carried out in the first place, and the other 50% only ever talk about 3 subjects.

1. Dogs Barking
2. Burning fires
3. The booking system at Bordon recycling.

Hi Paul, true that not everyone is on Facebook, but the carnival committee did post on this website on the 24th Jan 2023 regarding their AGM on the 28th Feb 2023. They stated they would talk about their achievements and plans for this year. All members of the public were welcome, perhaps D missed that post/meeting. There is always next year if D has polite queries to the committee regarding costs. At the end of the day it is a community event that benefits local charities & organisations, attendance is not mandatory but the more the merrier.

- Russ Ellis (23rd Aug 2023 - 17:58:31)

Well I as a long time participant in the carnival am very pleased it’s carrying on . My first time in the carnival was at Bramshott school around about 1950 and the last time was last year. Have done most jobs on the carnival even letting off the fireworks in the recreation ground. So I am so pleased that new people came forward to run it it’s a Liphook tradition and makes the community come together.power to their elbow as they say .

I'm really looking forward to the Carnival. I knew some time ago that it was to continue and, D, I'm not on Facebook. Sometimes just talking to people is helpful!

D-please tell us how you contribute to the community. You have a lot of energy and commitment when it comes to moaning-perhaps you could redirect some of it to doing something positive.

Hi,
Full support by whatever means for our Carnival fund raising.
Liphook Carnival started in 1902, so it is our local heritage, and history.

It is unusual as the parade is under lights, and is held in the evening, to make it look more spectacular. Other towns and villages, hold there Carnivals mostly in the daytime.

Apart from the Liphook's annual Bike ride (started 1990), it is best money raising event for deserved local charities.

- Sally Cameron (24th Aug 2023 - 15:34:34)

Dear all,

The reason for the post was to promote this years Carnival Sponsored Walk. We raise funds to pay for the annual Carnival which costs in the region of £11K to host.

The Carnival Committee do an amazing job & give up their free time to host fundraisers and the Carnival. We do this to raise much needed funds for local people, groups & organisations locally. In particular the Liphook Foodbank and the Tantum Trust which provides much needed support to those really struggling.

We made a statement prior to last years Carnival saying it possibly could be the last year as we were lacking volunteers. (At the 2022 Carnival, we amazingly raised over £5K, 100% of which goes back to the community.) Fantastically we had more volunteers come forward. This will enable the Carnival to continue, but we are always looking for more help.

This has been shared on social media & most importantly at our AGM last February, which is always open to all.

Any queries please feel free to call me to discuss, but I would really like this post to focus on the original message about this years walk. Thank you & we hope to see you there! Sally Cameron, Carnival Chairperson, Mb 07717 313440

To all those so quick to draw negative conclusions, I have the carnivals best interests at heart. Which is why I question the wisdom of last year's announcement that the 2022 carnival "is to be the last one." Premature announcements such as this, especially when the information originated from the carnival organisers themselves, could easily put off potential sponsors.

Re: Liphook Carnival Fundraising Walk
- Susie (26th Aug 2023 - 09:42:51)

Announcing a potential end to a lovely historical event provided the opportunity for any investment/ sponsors/ community volunteers to get involved to help with whatever was needed.

It has clearly had the desired result and seems to be thriving on participation from the local community except for D who for some reason known only to them want to dampen the spirit.

D ‘s posts should have “Spoiler alert” as a subject header!
Look at the Radford Park v the tip ramblings, and D’s contributions.
The price of everything and value of nothing springs to mind.

Are you participating and joining the walk D with your mobile keyboard aka phone to enable commentary,
Or are you hiding behind it again?

What do you actually join and take part in to support the community D?

I will be walking complete with sisters family both sets of kids and dogs.,so see you there, maybe have a conversation,it’s the new normal these days give it a try it’s really not that hard to be nice.

Re: Liphook Carnival Fundraising Walk
- Penny Williamson (26th Aug 2023 - 11:22:32)

D I don't think that the announcement that the 2022 Carnival would be the last one was premature. If there were not enough helpers then the organisers had no choice - they had to make the decision and announce it. In the end I actually think the announcement had a positive effect, particularly as the reason given was the lack of volunteers, because it has activated interest and prompted a positive response - ie more people have come forward to volunteer. As to sponsors they will almost certainly come back once they realise that the Carnival is going to continue. Win, win all round. Good luck for this year's Carnival.

Will you be walking as "Susie" or "Maz"? Assuming you won't be working in the United States or the far East that weekend while arguing a toss over a £200 ISA in Lloyd's Bank? 😄

- Dave (5th Sep 2023 - 13:05:23)

well done organisers but can you advise when the signs that are nailed to many trees on the routes are going to be collected please?

Re: Liphook Carnival Fundraising Walk
- igiveup (6th Sep 2023 - 23:36:31)

Dave

They are volunteers. They work hard for the community. When they've got time from their jobs etc they will remove the signs. If the signs are offending you then I'm sure they won't mind if you take them down yourself.

Honestly, some people.

Re: Liphook Carnival Fundraising Walk
- dave (7th Sep 2023 - 12:54:07)

@igiveup (2). Just an enquiry! How many event posts are left up for years because the "volunteers" who put them up are too busy to take them down? Following your logic should I also pick up dog poo that owners are too busy to pick up or litter that others are too busy to find a bin for? The event was finished by mid afternoon on Sunday so plenty of time for a "volunteer" to retore the walks to how they were pre signage
