Local physiotherapists who don't do acupuncture?
- Joshua (6th Sep 2023 - 10:28:29)

Hello!
I was wondering if anyone knows a nearby "evidence based" physiotherapist /sports therapist.

I've had a look and almost everyone I found in the neighbouring area does scientifically suspect practices like acupuncture, which I don't view favourably

I am not so bothered if they're reluctant swindlers and are just doing it for the money, but wouldn't feel comfortable being treated by someone who subscribed to such views.

Thanks
PS: Not looking for a debate about the above thoughts, just suggestions if there are any!

Interesting, sorry but I can't really help you!

However, even more interesting, is why people put forward long and often controversial explanations on TalkBack and then say they're not interested in any debate!

They often find that TalkBack doesn't work that way. You don't get to decide how the debate goes, we do😂

Each to their own, I'm not a fan of needles and so would never try acupuncture, but have heard it works for some and the theory is just about plausible to me, pressure points, nerves and their relation to pain management I understand a little about, through massage, so perhaps!

That's my final word and anything anyone says after this doesn't count, when I count to 3, one, two, three...

Have you tried Healthflex in Woolmer Hill?

Check out Ed Carroll at Holy Cross Hospital Haslemere - excellent!

I don’t think I have ever met a “reluctant swindler” ! All swindlers I have met have been “very keen swindlers ! “ most people who have paid a lot of money for a treatment or service feel swindled if it does not work. A friend of mine paid a lot of money to a podiatrist ( an upfront payment for the whole year) only to find a) there were extra costs) and B) his treatments did not cure the problem. Buyer beware.

I am not pro or con alternative treatments such as acupuncture, but to give a balanced peer-reviewed position on clinical effectivness NICE have conducted scientific research:

nice.org.uk/guidance/ng193/evidence/g-acupuncture-for-chronic-primary-pain-pdf-9071987012

This may assist others in deciding whether there is or isn't sufficient evidence for the use of acupunture in the management of chronic pain. Importantly it is peer reviewed rather than the views of non-experts on social media for instance.

Paul
How dare you contaminate the Talkback site with well-informed, properly researched scientific data? Don't you realise that this site depends on biased, opinionated and bigoted people who learn stuff from dodgy internet sites which reinforce their views?

If anyone can be bothered to read this 200-page report, they will learn that acupuncture may have a mild benefit in some cases, although the results are variable and inconsistent.

No doubt the conspiracy theorists will decide that the report is driven by sinister motives, but for me, it is an interesting and well-founded scientific research paper. I'm not personally a convert to acupuncture, but I'm prepared to acknowledge that there may be benefits for some people. Thanks for alerting us to this paper.

@Les - LOL! Took me a second but yes my bad for providing evidence based information .... :)
