donations and recycling - Liphook Day Centre (24th Sep 2023 - 14:32:02) Milk bottle tops can be left at the Liphook Day Centre these are then taken to Chichester to raise funds for a Hospice. Only milk bottle tops please not lemonade or drinks bottle tops. HP & Cannon Ink Cartridges are collected at Liphook Day Centre to raise funds for the Centre a collection bucket just inside entrance . Any unwanted gifts which you have received can be used for raffle prizes to raise funds at the events held by members of the Day Centre Knitting wool can be used by the Monday Knit and Natter Group. The wool is made into items for Bliss-Royal Surrey and forthcoming fund raising event. Meetings held on Mondays at Liphook Day Centre 2-4p.m. There is a collection point for empty foil tablet packets at the Doctors Surgery which is in Tesco Car Park Petersfield. Collection bins just inside the entrance door. Hope some of these suggestions help those who have made contact recently. Thank You.

Re: donations and recycling - paul (24th Sep 2023 - 16:24:07) Hi, If there was any way of raising funds for your very worthy cause in Liphook, it would be glass and bottle recycling. Now there is no facility in Liphook for glass, an enterprising idea could facilitate.

Re: donations and recycling - C (24th Sep 2023 - 17:29:17) The bin men collect glass every four weeks. If only we could recycle all plastics, not just bottles, in the black bins.

Re: donations and recycling - paul (25th Sep 2023 - 18:25:53) Hi, Collecting glass every 4 weeks, it is a long time if have a half a small skip is full in this time period. There must be a better way for our community going forward.

However, I wonder why it is always down to the householder to puzzle over what is and what is not suitable for our recycling collection. I appreciate that we all have to do our bit to save the planet but it needs a bigger push from manufacturers, the government and local authorities to ensure that all packaging is recyclable via a simple and adequate collection service.

Paper Yes please - newspapers, magazines, junk mail, computer paper, envelopes (including windowed envelopes), catalogues and directories, paper bags. No thanks - shredded paper, gift wrap, plastic-coated (laminated) paper, paper towels, tissues and napkins, wallpaper. Cardboard Yes please - cereal packets, food boxes, greetings cards, kitchen and toilet roll holders, corrugated card. No thanks - any plastic or foam packaging left inside cardboard boxes (please dispose of this in your green bin), pizza boxes (due to food debris). Plastic bottles Yes please - food and drink bottles (e.g. milk, cooking oil, squash and fizzy drinks), detergent bottles (e.g. washing up liquid, cleaning fluids, bleach and fabric softener), toiletries (e.g. shampoo, shower gel and liquid soap), bottle tops. No thanks - bottles containing liquid, spray and pump dispensers. Tins and cans Yes please - food tins including pet food tins, drinks cans, sweet and biscuit tins. No thanks - paint tins, partially full food/pet food tins or dirty tins, other metals or metal packaging. Aerosols Yes please - food e.g. cream and oil, deodorant, hairspray. No thanks - lids, full or partially full aerosols. Other things you can’t put in your recycling bin Other plastic packaging - e.g. yogurt, margarine or ice cream tubs, carrier bags/bin liners, polystyrene, cellophane, food trays etc. Cartons - e.g. fruit juice, soup and milk cartons, Tetrapak. Domestic waste Shredded paper Gift wrap Garden waste Textiles - e.g. clothes, shoes, linen etc. Glass Bottles or jars Why can't I recycle plastic packaging? Plastic pots, tubs and trays are made up of a wider variety of polymers – e.g. PS, PP, PET, PVC, and LDPE. This range of polymers cannot be successfully sorted in our Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) without investing significantly in new equipment, which at this stage would be too expensive. Will you start taking different types of recycling? What we can recycle as a council is specified to us by Hampshire County Council. Waste and recycling from East Hampshire go to facilities in Alton or Portsmouth (depending on where in the district it’s collected from). The material is sorted and sent to be recycled into new products. Any waste that can’t be recycled is burnt to produce power. This greatly reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfill. NOTE: If you are uncertain about a specific item please put it in the non re-cycling bin as one item in the re-cycling bin can contaminate a whole lorry load. Hope this helps.
