Constant firing
- Irritated (8th Nov 2023 - 14:02:10)

What’s with the constant firing at the moment. Day or night never seems to stop. Live on Haslemere Road. Has anyone else noticed this having become increasingly prevalent?

You cannot be serious! Have you not read the previous recent posts on this topic? Liphook borders active military training grounds (since Victorian times) so gunfire and chinook helicopters are part and parcel of Liphook life

Longmoor training ukranian soldiers I think

Gotten used after 50 oddyears it what happens when you live close to army ranges

Re: Constant firing
- Local (8th Nov 2023 - 17:34:56)

We have always had military firing day and night the ranges are very close probably gearing up for sending our soldiers to the war in Israeli. This whole area is military so in times of strife becomes very active.

Re: Constant firing
- er (8th Nov 2023 - 18:51:56)

They are firing live on Haslemere Road? Is it the county liners?

Re: Constant firing
- Irritated (8th Nov 2023 - 19:09:29)

Thank you “Local” for providing a sensible answer.

To the others in this thread; of course I’m aware of Longmoor ranges. Just curious about the increased level of activity. Not everything needs to be an argument! Although I should have known better than to expect much else on this site.

Thought all the comments were quite sensible, obviously with the exception of er which was actually quite humorous for that particular poster. Very odd post if you are aware of the ranges, its not like the world is all peace and love at the moment. Expect more to come as we near the next election, nothing like the threat of war to bolster an incumbent party's vote.

Re: Constant firing

Pete why do you nearly always turn a thread around to politics to slag of this government. Yes you have the right to have your opinion but it becomes boring when you keep shoving it down our throats. I’m more worried about what’s to come at the next election because we have not got anyone to do better. The Labour Party which will probably get in are in complete disarray even Corbyn is raising his head again with a lot of support. But it’s not what party is in its the back room boys the Humphrey’s that run the country that are to blame they need to be controlled and do what they are told not plot to bring down ministers they don’t like a total shambles. The civil servants need a complete overhaul. I apologise for doing the same as Pete .

@Irritated, you say - "To the others in this thread; of course I’m aware of Longmoor ranges. Just curious about the increased level of activity. Not everything needs to be an argument!"

I think choosing the username "Irritated" was a mistake, in that case, as it implies that you are annoyed by the sound of firing. Maybe "Just Curious" would have been a better choice of name on this occasion!

Re: Constant firing
- Furb (9th Nov 2023 - 10:31:38)

Yes, everyone WELL aware that there are ranges at Longmoor.

But none of you can disagree that recently it has been much more intense.

Obviously there are reasons for this but if they need to train in the dark, sunset is from around 4:30pm, so late night is somewhat annoying.

And no, I won't move, because levels since I was born and raised in Liphook have been tolerable. It's starting to push things now.

Salisbury Plain - just sayin'.

Cue the abuse....

Re: Constant firing
- Irritated (9th Nov 2023 - 12:03:07)

Thanks Furb.

And no Jen, I remain somewhat irritated by it as well as curious! :-)

Re: Constant firing
- Ann (9th Nov 2023 - 12:51:05)

All the firing/bangs/noise etc is due to the training of the Ukrainian Soldiers on Longmoor Camp. Not just a handful of soldiers - hundreds of them.

Re: Constant firing
- Jon (9th Nov 2023 - 13:11:59)

Article from Farnham Herald on 23rd Oct referencing Operation Interflex,
(the training of Ukrainian Forces). Mentions that " Large swathes of Longmoor between Liss Forest, Liphook and Whitehill are expected to be off-limits to the public until December at the earliest with further dates likely for overnight training".

Re: Constant firing
- er (9th Nov 2023 - 13:59:43)

Thanks Pete, I'll take whatever compliments I can get!

To those saying who is being trained and why, should we be mentioning it? I know it's very general but even on sites like this, maybe especially local sites like this which are in military training areas, there could be spies watching and reading, hearing about how the Chinese, Russians etc work in espionage with high tech AI tools to trawl the internet, maybe we should assume there are!

Putting up with a bit more noise is the least we can do to help Ukraine.

Re: Constant firing

Updating another recent article (Mon13th Nov) from Liphook Herald. Response from Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Mark Ludlow, following a complaint about excessive and late-night noise from a villager.

- paul (13th Nov 2023 - 18:03:49)

Hi,
Good post and update Jon on current firings at the ranges.

We live in a country and area not under constant threat like the Ukraine. Noise is the least we should be concerned about locally, when civilians and families are dead in their country..

Re: Constant firing
- Don't complain if you let off fireworks (14th Nov 2023 - 08:21:18)

The Army training noises are annoying but they are no where near as long or loud as they where 15 - 20 years ago. At present they are just in Liss forest and Longmoor areas. Years ago they also used to train on both sides of Bramshott Common as well. At least we are aware of these noises and training times going on until December.

Unlike the random fireworks that go off in different gardens for hours at night. The same people complaining about the gun noises do not realise to a dog , cat, wild animals, horses, humans with PTSD and heart problems.

The stress and annoyance you feel about the gun noises is what animals and someone with PTSD or heart problems feels every time you let off fireworks. If you let of fireworks don't complain about the army firing noises because you are adding to the noise problems every time you let off fireworks.
