Dreadful Royal Mail
- Jo (30th Nov 2023 - 17:27:47)
Letter posted first class Sat hasn't arrived here yet, hospital appointments missed, birthdays ruined. What can we do about the appalling village mail? It isn't a nationwide problem and does seem particularly bad round here.
Is there a central place to complain to?

To make a complaint call 03457 740740.
I can’t remember the last time I used Royal Mail if I’m honest. I tend to email, use social media or pick up the phone to communicate with others. Most appointments can now be booked online too. Unfortunately it doesn’t help
much if someone is sending something to you though. I can understand your frustration.

It is a national problem, and it's not the fault of the local office. The post office are letting the letter part of their business run down because it isn't profitable

Well known shortfall of 400,000 workers affecting all of the UK and the post office after we chased them home with Brexit.
Without those immigrants the NHS waiting lists would be 10 times as long as they are now. For its immigrant staff that’s currently holding the system together.
Well done all… great job

Sam - A bit of info for you, the reason that the service has gone down is the loss of volume of post being posted via Royal Mail due to the competitors that came in when the monopoly was removed. The monopoly was removed by the order of the EU yes that's right the EU are to blame for the poor postal service.
I am an ex royal mail worker from 1990 to 2009, so I know what I'm talking about.

Never mind facts and information. Let's all divert and subvert this thread's topic and any other thread into yet another Brexit shootout.

Most people now only send cards and parcels not letters so inevitably Royal Mail will lose money. They rely on the income they get from delivering Junk Mail. Because we send emails and communicate differently the few letters I get are usually bills. The price of stamps to put people off. I do not think it is anything to do with shortage of workers they are laying off people not desperate to employ new staff.

I went into the Sorting Office last week as I had been waiting a week for a parcel that had been sent first class. They were really helpful.
They have people off with Covid, they have people having to do different shifts due to injury (so they can't deliver).
I asked if they were short staffed and yes they are... also they have the problem that people start working for them and then don't last, often leaving after their first day, because they can see how much there is to do to catch up.
Our local posties and the sorting office are really working hard to get us the mail, but they have circumstances beyond their control at the moment. They are a great team and I thank them for that.
