Parking on the grass
- Avenue Resident (6th Jan 2024 - 13:41:38)

Have noticed parents of the school children who obviously don’t live here parking on the grass at lark rise. Churning it up like a ploughed field, not very nice thing to do you would not like it if you had a grass area outside your house churning up by people for no reason except not willing to walk a little further to collect their children Please be a bit more considerate to others.

- paul (6th Jan 2024 - 17:26:39)

Hi,
When have car owners been considerate of their parking?
Drivers behind the wheel become selfish, and sometimes very angry, like monsters in a second. (Male and Female).
They are not even courteous, acknowledging on the estate to a passing driver giving way, to allow an on-coming vehicle to pass.

Local drivers need to understand the benefits to all, park considerately to others, and drive well for all road users.

- Local (8th Jan 2024 - 10:28:18)

Perhaps the police need to be informed because I think there is a new law out that it’s illegal to park on pavements so perhaps this is the same.

Re: Parking on the grass
- paul earwicker (8th Jan 2024 - 11:49:21)

Hi,
Also cycling on pavements is a criminal offence (and is recorded against the person), it is not a civil offence.
The law dates back to 1835 of the Highways Act.

Re: Parking on the grass
- er (8th Jan 2024 - 12:42:28)

Local, what new law, can you name it please, I'm not aware of it and certainly pavement parking has always been lawful in Hampshire thus far (subject to consideration and safety ie ensuring a wheelchair or pram can pass safely), it is also considered preferable to pavement park rather than block the carriageway. As for churning up grass, that seems selfish I must say.

There are however laws about driving on the pavement, virtually always illegal and dangerous, you can be prosecuted for careless or dangerous driving, that's why I never mount the kerb to allow someone else to pass, especially with school children coming out, I see many parents doing so on the Avenue and they shouldn't, I far prefer sensible pavement parking and keeping the carriageway clear than selfish road parking and seeing drivers having to use the pavement as a road to pass with little children running around!

Re: Parking on the grass
- Bob (8th Jan 2024 - 12:55:31)

A cyclist nearly hit me on the pavement on Headley Road, if I were to push the cyclist off the pavement would/could it be considered self defence? I would after all only be trying to protect myself again personnel injury.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Sam (8th Jan 2024 - 13:01:42)

Funny how you would assume there is some official body like the police going to help you out here, news today shows they didn’t even turn up or take action on a burglary when the victim had both CCTV of the crime and was able to identify by name and address the perpetrator.

Remember this is our fault, we voted for a bunch of clowns that reduced the police force, same crew that wants to pay medical staff low wages..

We did it, then we complain

Re: Parking on the grass
- Paul (10th Jan 2024 - 10:32:25)

Would not condone cycling on pavements, but Section 72 of the Highway Act 1835 and the Highway Code mention it is 'generally' illegal to cycle on footpaths.

There are permitted exceptions.

Perhaps if the people on Headley Road stopped parking on the road approaching the roundabouts you could get the riders back on the road safely, as I've seen a number use the pavement to avoid going wide around the cars (and into oncoming traffic).

Most of the houses there have driveways, they choose not to use them and cause issues.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Local (10th Jan 2024 - 12:17:41)

Beg to differ where the cars park only a small number have driveways not like the opposite side. And anyway they slow the speeding traffic coming into the village centre..

Re: Parking on the grass
- Jen (10th Jan 2024 - 13:24:38)

This is in response to the comment from Bob on 8th January.

Please don't even think about pushing a cyclist off the pavement. It could have terrible and devastating consequences, both for the cyclist and for you.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Paul (10th Jan 2024 - 16:20:50)

@Local - that's the problem. It's not their job to slow the traffic. And most of the cars parked there belong to houses with driveways. It's clear the owners are using them for what you said.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Another Resident (10th Jan 2024 - 17:21:51)

Parking on the grass and on our verges is real menace.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Local (10th Jan 2024 - 18:07:32)

Paul how do you know the vehicles parked on the road belong to people with driveways . Parking in liphook has become a nightmare and speeding traffic also so any means of deterring traffic from passing through liphook is good yes I say passing through because that is the problem we Don’t have any ring roads. Things must change or we lose our conservation square.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Claire (11th Jan 2024 - 14:42:51)

It’s the very same scenario on Headley Road just down from the Premier Shop. Residents park on the road as opposed to the driveways at the rear of their properties and block the road for oncoming traffic. And yes we all know it’s not illegal as there’s no yellow lines but how many wing mirrors need to be broken before the owners take their cars off the road and park them on their own property. Is they moved their caravans they would be able to park and keep everyone safe.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Re (11th Jan 2024 - 19:17:52)

Clair if you can’t negotiate around parked cars what ever would you do in a city. The vehicles parked in headley road do a good job of slowing down the traffic so many speed into liphook at a mind boggling speed very impatient as if they haven’t a minute to live.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Al (12th Jan 2024 - 15:58:13)

Yes agree Headley Road is awful

Re: Parking on the grass
- Paul (13th Jan 2024 - 15:02:15)

@Re - Thank you for validating the key point about selfish parking. The residents on Headley Road incorrectly think they have a duty to slow down traffic. They don't, that's not their job.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Re (13th Jan 2024 - 16:47:53)

No Paul the people that park in the headley road do so quite legally the same as other roads in liphook ie the avenue,London road, Portsmouth road . As said on street parking slows traffic down which is not a bad thing the traffic coming into liphook on all roads most of the time are speeding the 20 mph limit is totally ignored. For many years the liphook people have been asking for something to be done about all the traffic coming through the square nothing has been done the roads are the same as they were going back to stage coach times some have been modified but no more have been built except the bypass. The traffic through the square is now more than when the A3 came through so it’s time we had something done about it we have been very patient. So anything that slows traffic down and makes the drivers realise they are coming into a built up area and our conversation square the better.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Paul (14th Jan 2024 - 10:11:52)

@Re - I urge you to re-read my post. I didn't say they are parking illegally - you have clearly not understood my simple, short statement. I said they feel they have a duty to slow traffic which isn't their job. Do keep up.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Re (14th Jan 2024 - 12:28:10)

I did read your post correctly you inferred that the people parking in headly road do so to slow traffic that’s not the case they park there firstly because they can as others do around liphook and secondly they probably have to because ThEY don’t have driveways. My point was it’s much better having on street parking around the village to slow traffic down and it helps the shops.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Paul (14th Jan 2024 - 14:07:17)

Again Re - it's NOT their job to interfere with traffic, most DO have driveways, and yet again I've not said anything about the legalities - that's something you keep looping back to yourself.

Please show me or link to relevant legislation that gives residents (as opposed to Police or Councils) the right to interfere with traffic? Then I'll take you seriously.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Jon (14th Jan 2024 - 19:33:36)

Paul, you cannot be serious. Local & RE have correctly stated that the legally parked cars on the Headley Road, obviously physically slow the traffic down. It is you that twisted the conversation by inferring that they only park there to slow/interfere with the traffic.

Slightly off topic, EHDC is buying 20 sets of high-tech Speed watch cameras, Bramshott & Liphook Parish council is receiving 1 set of 3 cameras. liphookherald.com/speed-cameras-for-liphook-farringdon-froyle-ropley-and-worldham-657547

Hampshire County Council has also approved expenditure of £360,000
for a Toucan crossing with developer contributions near the Firs. One of in the additional benefits in theory, is that students of Bohunt School avoid the village centre using a new rear access to the school, hence reducing traffic flow in the centre of Liphook in peak times.liphookherald.com/news/bohunt-school-gets-new-ps360000-toucan-crossing-on-busy-liphook-road-658864

Re: Parking on the grass
- Re (14th Jan 2024 - 20:36:16)

Thanks Jon Paul does like twisting posts ,there are a lot of houses on that piece of road that don’t have driveways . One central driveway for all those houses very difficult to manoeuvre in and out must be a nightmare. But it’s obvious that Paul wants to drive around liphook unhindered by parked vehicles he must be in such a mad rush.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Avenue Resident (14th Jan 2024 - 21:03:33)

Paul try negotiating the avenue especially at school time twice a day , the headley road is a doddle.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Avenue Resident (17th Jan 2024 - 13:18:17)

Back to the original thread I see they are still parking on the grass yesterday a Chelsea tractor Porsche was churning it up , bet they would not like it if they had their grass outside their house churning up . What is the matter with these parents no respect for residents.

Re: Parking on the grass
- Avenue Resident (23rd Jan 2024 - 14:01:37)

See an ambulance had a job to get through this morning at school time with blue lights going. It’s about time something is done about the parking in the avenue.

Avenue Resident, perhaps report to our local PC Darren Bramley? Details : darren.bramley@hampshire.police.uk,

Just read about toucan crossing says on single road of portsmouth road , are they altering portsmouth road then as well ?

Plus no sweet shop on this entrance thats some of the reason pupils go via village

odd had no notification in post about alteration to road a few yards away from house
