Bordon/Petersfield Tips
- KM (12th Jan 2024 - 07:45:00)
BBC News - Hampshire tips earmarked for closure revealed.
"Household waste recycling centres in Alresford, Bishop's Waltham, Fair Oak, Hartley Wintney and Hayling Island were found to be the most expensive to run by Hampshire County Council.
Sites in Aldershot, Bordon, Casbrook, Hedge End, Marchwood, Petersfield and Somerley are also at risk."

Surely, this can only make incident of fly-tipping worse.

Really hope not, where would our nearest be if Bordon shut, it's the only one I've been too, very handy too, wouldn't fancy going too far don't like driving that much tbh!
Can see a lot of people feeling the same, we shouldn't let it go quietly, that's what they want, maybe start some kind of petition, I know the councils are going skint and need to house everyone, but they aren't short of cash in the big cities, we just get ignored for services and infrastructure, once these kind of facilities are gone they never ever come back in places like this

This is really bad news. I urge anyone else concerned to write to their MP about it as I will be doing. Damian Hinds is the MP for East Hants.

Closing these tips is a completely bonkers idea unless Hampshire County Council is going to increase by a factor of three or four its current budget for clearing up fly tipping. If it wants to do anything to save money for the recycling tips it need to abandon entirely its current requirement to pre-book (involving as it does a computer system and monitoring, all at some cost to HCC) and go back to the old system of “pitch up and empty but be prepared to queue at busy times”.
If you agree with me can I suggest that you email the Hampshire County Council Councillor for Liphook, Mrs. Debbie Curnow Ford with your objections. Her e-address is Debbie.curnow-ford@hants.gov.uk, she is also a Bramshott and Liphook parish councillor.
Regards
Eric

Sadly I can't imagine Damian Hinds being interested, he could not be bothered to vote in Parliament over the discharge of raw sewage into our sea.

I agree lobby the county councillor - may also be an idea to lobby our EHDC councillor with the portfolio for recycling/ refuse collections in our area think it is currently Mr Bill Mouland as the impact on our waste and flytipping locally would be unimaginable.

PR - always worth a try though. Nothing was ever achieved without giving it a go.

Write to Damian Hinds as well as HCC as it appears that the Government is restricting funding (has been for years) even though there is record taking in tax revenues this fiscal year. Damian Hinds will be very interested to hear about increased fly tipping and more garden fires as more green garden rubbish is burned to deal with it.

M
Thanks for the link to the website. It has to be worth making our feelings known. The HWRC availability affects so many of us, without which we'd find it difficult to dispose of waste. I raised HCC's likely rising costs of dealing with fly tipping as a result of removing/ reducing HWRC services

Just a thought Bordon may be safe from closure. The balance of power in the council is now held by the Bordon community party led by Andy Tree, all he cares about is Bordon, after all he is the leader of the Bordon party. I'm sure he will make his views clear in the council and at least save the Bordon site.

AF, unfortunately the Refuse Centres are run by HCC not EHDC, so the Bordon Community Party won't have much more say on the outcome any more than you or I.

As far as I know if hcc close the amenity /recycling centres and people fly tip ,Ehdc pick up the bill for collecting the said rubbish no hcc.
So it’s a win win situation for them???

M - Good point, I was getting mixed up with all the layers of local government.
However, the Bordon party are in the county council as well so will be able to have a vote and unlike some other members are not compelled to vote for their party regardless of their or their constituents views.

I do not think the deal the Bordon community party struck with the Conservatives was quite as “ holding the balance of power’’ I think it was a deal that they were a minority party who could not achieve any outcome themselves so they agreed to hitch their wagon to the conservatives and vote with them to obtain majority voting.

I signed up to EHDC email.. mostly for waste messages and planning..
The local councillors messaged this 2/3 weeks ago urging us to respond
against the the idea of closing the tips( amongst other cost saving measures ) and I have done so..
People don't seem to realise our local councillors / officers communicate
well in this way
