Litter picked yesterday - waste of time?
- C (11th Feb 2024 - 11:54:37)

Spent two hours picking up litter yesterday around Liphook. Can see there’s already cans along Haslemere Road this morning. Pretty soul destroying. In the unlikely event anyone reading this thinks it’s acceptable to throw their litter on the ground, it’s not. Plenty of bins around.

Liphook is a village authority, supposedly looking after a village community which is town-sized and inner city-minded. Regrettably, good willing volunteers will not cut it when it comes to pick up the nuisance rubbish after city folks (of all genders). Liphook now needs city-style street sweepers paid for by yet higher council tax. We also need on-the-spot fines enforced.
Until such days, we must all reduce littering and stop others from littering if we want to live in a less filthy locality.

Well done for your efforts on picking up the litter, certainly more effective than reporting how disheartened you are with the litter return here to a tiny audience of unnamed trolls and anti outsiders failing at life

The place to complain to is EHDC as they are responsible for the street cleaning in Liphook not the Parish council. I do not think it is fair to blame “ city folk” I have been to plenty of cities in Europe far cleaner than Liphook. It is the way our society behaved whether or not they are from a smaller conurbation or bigger city makes no difference. It is all the greasy food people eat in the street here and drinks cans just thrown down. I have seen it happen. The amount thrown out of cars too is unbelievable and ends up on the verges.

No-on has mentioned "parenting" and people taking responsibility for their own actions. It is so much easier to shift that responsibility by blaming and complaining. I have the greatest respect for the litter pickers and hope they will not be too discouraged and despondent.

Agree it can be pretty disheartening when you do a litter pick then the next day it’s appeared again. I collected litter from the woods off Highfield Lane last weekend, mostly dropped dog poo bags neatly tied up with contents still inside. Baffles me that one. If you go to that much trouble, dog owners, then why not take it home with you to dispose of. It’s your dog’s so it’s your responsibility!!

Jayne that baffles me too. The worst part has to be bagging it up. Arguably it would be better to leave it unbagged. At least then it would biodegrade.
And I really am not up for the argument that people “leave them there to collect later”! Definitely not the case!
