Do I need a 'TV Aerial'...?
- local resident (16th Apr 2024  08:43:38)

Hello folks

I am having my chimney repointed etc.

It has a classic 'TV Aerial' attached to it.

Our super new and fancy TV has what looks like an aerial cable plugged into it, which a basic 'push it in and out' test indicates is needed for terrestrial channels.

The contractors have asked if they should remove the aerial while they are working on the chimney.

Is there any way of consuming TV without a TV aerial? We are on the Headley Road.

Sorry if this is a spectacularly dumb question.

:)

Hello local - most TV can be streamed now if you have a decent internet connection. Have a look at Freeview Play for your terrestrial channels, and if you want / have Sky then Sky Stream is worth a look. Hope this helps.

I think that having a new one installed would be a sensible option. Try Robbie Ireland of 3 Counties TV

Make a note of what direction it currently points.

North West is towards Hannington transmitter
South East is towards Midhurst.

Some parts of Liphook get better signal from one than the other.

All our TV is accessed online. We use i-player, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Britbox (soon to be ITVx Premium) and My 5.
So, personally I don't see any need for either an aerial or a satellite dish, providing you have a reasonable broadband connection.

My suggestion is to unplug the lead from your TV and see what happens, imagine you'll loose your programming and will need to configure obtaining channels some other way.
Do you want all that hassle (it appears you might not be that tech savvy from reading your post?) so I'd make sure the aerial stays in situ, or better still get a new one installed once the chimney is repaired.
I'd second using Robbie Ireland.

Hi you can put aerials into your loft space although you may need a booster as well . So many Tv s are internet only but I have a very poor connection so cannot rely on that.
