Very Important Police Crime Commissioner Election
- Local (20th Apr 2024 - 22:37:03)

Don't forget 2 May you get to vote in a very important election for a Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire.

This is really important because the police cannot possibly decide for themselves how to police our area and need political input, someone who can decide from their political office what the police prioritise and spend our money on, far better than the police themselves could ever possibly know, please, please vote for this political position, the choices are god knows who, blah blah blah, politicians and worthies and people just like us, I'm sure if we can just choose the right one all our policing problems will be solved, it's not just another job for the political classes, it's for you😂😂😂

Do i possibly detect a hint of sarcasm and derision.

By the way i agree its a completely pointless election but i will still wander off on the 2nd May and mark a cross.

Local-what oversight do you think the police should have? I presume you don't really think the police should be able to do exactly what they like as this would be stupid.

I agree it is important for the police to have outside scrutiny but the current way is expensive and should be tied in only with the local elections. Also how independent are they? It is a political position.

PR- I think the point the o.p was trying to make was that the position's were never needed and only came into being to make it look like the government were doing something, in short headline grabbing, just like the current Rwanda situation at the moment. Both are policy's put into place with no real expectation of them actually making a jot of difference but the rhetoric accompanying them might win a few votes.

A report by the Lib Dems (don't vote for them!) indicated that Police and Crime Commissioners cost UK taxpayers £102,200,000.00 since 2019.

Surrey Commissioner pays 3 people to manage social media. The Warwickshire Commissioner claimed £500 on a hotel room for a meeting with other PCCs.

The Hampshire PCC has cost £7,400,000.00 since 2019. Hampshire was cited in the Lib Dem report for this spend during a time when community officers have fallen.

Thames Valley PCC spent £1,000,000.00 in office costs and expenses.

(This is from the Lib Dem website).
