Edmonton way boarded up flat
- Sally (24th Apr 2024  21:27:09)

I noticed that thereā€™s a ground floor flat boarded up over in Edmonton way - there were some notices but they were too tiny to read - anyone know what happened here? The only thing I could see was about a police warrant or something like that

Its a nice modern development so looks very random and out of place

Clearly you donā€™t live in the road as all residents are fully aware of the circumstances surrounding the flat closure. The notices explain why it is boarded up and Hampshire police have posted about on social media recently.

Iā€™m not sure why you are concerned about the aesthetics of a dead end road that you donā€t live in and if you did, youā€™d appreciate that the residents are far happier with the boarded up flat than the antisocial behaviour that preceded it.

@A - wow! Passive aggressive response!

@A what a passive aggressive and unnecessary response.

No I am not a resident, I was viewing a house and have every right to be in the area. I was simply looking for information, which is what Liphook Talkback is for, so this probably isnā€™t the right forum for you to be in. I have no issue with it being boarded up either and was also not challenging that.

Have a good day

Out of curiosity was the occupants on social welfare? Just an observation but it does seem to be the case that there are far more social problems generated from these type of people as opposed to hard working tax paying members of society. Maybe the people working hard donā€™t have the time to sell drugs, dance all night and have unplanned pregnancies one after the other.

I do hope the Tories remain in government as Labour will simply enable this mindset.

Unfortunately this can happen when you try to put Social Housing alongside Market Housing.
99% of residents are great but unfortunately it's the 1% that cause all the problems and make life hell for everyone else and drag an area down.
The do gooders say that this type of resident will improve their behaviour if they are live side by side with hard working residents who have purchased their home, but unfortunately they don't and they try to drag everyone down to their level.
The type of residents who occupied this flat (in all likely not working and being paid by all the hard working tax payers) don't deserve somewhere given to them to live in. Social engineering that doesn't work!

Itā€™s a disgrace when you save hard to purchase a house only to have some career social welfare family assigned a free house next to you. They then proceed to drag down the value of your hard earned property through their unneighbourly behaviour and dirty way of life. There should be some scheme to send them to a remote island and leave them engineer their own free loading society!

I witness first hand the effects dysfunctional residents have on neighbours property values. Left leaning planning restrictions have led to an influx in Liphook of the type of people that really should be placed in areas like Bordon or Aldershot. Liphook social housing surge really has changed the social makeup of the village and not for the better.

Re: Edmonton way boarded up flat

I don't think property values is a subject to bring up, that is a consequence of the issue not the problem.

99% of people have the same values in life..... work hard, look after your family and be polite and respectful to others.

Unfortunately it's the 1% who aren't that cause the issues and the vast majority live in social housing that everyone else pays for.

In the old days of Council Housing there could still be an issue but those individuals, or families, lived on estates where no body owned their home, so it was the councils job to ensure that order was maintained.

Since social housing, provided by developers on market housing estates, became the norm we have seen the problems that arise when home owners end up cheek by jowl with others with no respect for their neighbours, primarily because they have no respect or financial commitment to the home they live in. The do Gooders who promote this scenario never have to live in that position.

All social housing should be grouped together on separate estates so everyone with a similar outlook on life, live in the same area.

- Social housing resident! (9th May 2024  08:08:05)

As someone that lives in social housing, I find this post very judgemental and stereotypical. Not all of us that live in social housing go out causing trouble for everyone and doing drugs. Some of us ( including me and my partner ) go out to work, come home and look after the children and make sure the house is always presentable! Unfortunately in this day and age itā€™s impossible for us to be able to afford to get on the property ladder so yes we do have to use social housing, weā€™re not all bad people so please donā€™t put us all in the same boat!

Would also like to add that nobody pays for the house that I live in.
I personally pay the rent out of my pocket with the money that i earn from my job. Weā€™re not all ā€˜ dirty scroungersā€

Hear Hear! Social Housing Tenant. I, too live in Social Housing and agree that we can't all be tarred with the same brush. Never claimed a benefit in all my life and have worked full time all my life, except when bringing up my children when I worked part time until they were old enough for school. They all have good careers now. Some of the posts on here blaming the people who live in Social Housing make me want to cry. Yes, some people are like that - the minority - and they certainly don't all live in Social Housing. Please think before you write such judgemental posts.

I agree not every one in social housing is a problem. Mrs Thatcher sold off all the council houses and local authorities do not now have the money to replace them even if they wanted to - which they do not. It is now the established practice to include either flats and houses or just flats on even small private housing estates. We have to live with that.

Social housing resident! as I have said it's the 1% that cause the problems, not the 99% of which you are part of.
It's a shame we all have to suffer the affects of those 1%.
