Estate Agents breaking the law - Dave B (22nd May 2024 - 17:43:24) I live in the village and have noticed that one of the village agents has put a board up on the council verge outside my house, some considerable distance from the house they are trying to sell. I checked with the council who advised me.... "An estate agent board can only be displayed on the property that is for sale or to rent. Boards may be displayed only on, or within the curtilage of, the property to which they relate. This means you cannot place boards on the street outside the property, next door or across the street" Looking around Liphook it seems that all the agents in the village have chosen to ignore this legislation.

Re: Estate Agents breaking the law - Ian (22nd May 2024 - 21:05:52) If they are on council land you can just take them down. You must not damage them or take them away, just lay them on the ground, the agent will soon get fed up of having to pay their contractors to put them back up.

Re: Estate Agents breaking the law - Scoot (23rd May 2024 - 09:26:36) Just like the 'this isn't a general flyer, it's a genuine interest enquiry' lie that Kelway perpetually shove through letterboxes. Aside from being untrue, really environmentally friendly. If I want to sell my house, I'll go to an estate agent - and it won't be Kelway.

We have youths motorcycling through the Square not wearing crash helmets, police too busy to investigate car vandalism, the list is endless. Of course smart arse attitudes from those who "don't lose any sleep" over these types of issues help the general trend towards us having to accept that as a society we just have to put up with businesses and individuals that do not think the rules apply to them anymore. And to name and shame, it seems that Clarke Gammon and Homes are the two main offenders whilst Hamptons and Kelway seem to follow the rules

Re: Estate Agents breaking the law - Mary W (23rd May 2024 - 09:44:41) Dave, that does seem to be a bit of a liberty - think I’d ring them and say people have been troubling you thinking it was your house for sale and that you want it moved off the council land. A white lie in a good cause if you haven’t got your house on the market.
