Broadband Provider - Swish Fibre
- Trevor (27th Jun 2024 - 17:25:27)

I need to find another broadband provider, does anybody have experience on using the new FTTP service by Swish Fibre who seem to have the monopoly on the fibre optic cabling laid to the adjacent footpath?

I've had Swish in Wey Lodge Close for nearly 3 months now with no problems. I am only on the lowest subscription.

You should be able to search for FTTP providers at your address using a comparison website. It shouldn’t be only Swish.

We've had Swish for maybe a year now. The service is fantastic. The router, supplied on the base package, is however not great. It only comes with one RJ45 socket and it doesn't like to turn back on after a power cut.

I'm on my second router and really should get round to buying a third party router but other things in life have got in the way.

I was an early customer of Swish in Liphook. Nearing the end of first 18 month contract and have extended for another period at £28 per month for 150Mbps up and down.

Very happy with the service.

We had one outage back at the very beginning which affected all of Liphook and Bordon. Has been solid since then.

We use our own router and mesh extenders to cover the whole house.

C, Swish is the only Fibre to Premises supplier that covers most of Liphook.
Every other supplier uses the unbundled BT Openreach network, which is Fibre to Cabinet and Copper to premises.
I think it's only the very recent new housing developments that have BT Openreach Fibre to Premises.

Swish Fibre is owned by Fern Trading Group. Fern Trading Group is owned by Octopus Inheritance Tax Service. Octopus Inheritance Tax Service is owned by Octopus Capital.

Octopus Capital is committed to Net Zero by 2030 and actively campaigns for an end to fossil fuels and decarbonization. Commendable ambitions, but important to note that by buying Swish Fibre you are indirectly helping Net Zero activists.

M, not true that Swish is the only FTTP provider in Liphook. I’m in the Canada Way area and have 500mbs full fibre with PlusNet. Cheaper than Swish too.

How have people found the Swish installation? Do they leave a lot of mess and/or equipment in weird/annoying places or ugly cabling tacked to skirting boards?

Thank you for everyone's most useful views. I am currently considering switching to BT subject to them getting access to the fibre optic cabling laid by Swish. I understand that Open Reach are seeking access to the cablng as BT's broadband can only offer 20 Mbps; FTTP offers 150 Mbps minimum.

Swishfibre are under no obligation to allow anyone, including BT or OpenReach, to have access to their fibre. I can't see it happening.

Why do Openreach need to use Swish’s cabling? Openreach went round laying their own.

Suggest you use a comparison site to see all the available connections to your address.
