If you want to get rid of the Tories, vote Lib Dem
- JM (3rd Jul 2024 - 11:20:24)
Latest You Gov polls show that the Conservatives may just squeak in in our new Farnham & Bordon constituency which, in my view, would be very disappointing and we've got a chance of real change in our community.
A vote for Labour will not help as the Lib Dems are only trailing by a few percentage points. A tactical vote for the Lib Dem candidate would make all the difference.
Conservative 37.6%
Lib Dem 33.4%
Reform 13.5%
Labour 12.3%
Green 2.9%
To get rid of the Tories, vote Lib Dem in our area.

Thanks for the advice JM.
Please advise us how to vote if we want to get rid of the Lib Dems?

Couldn't agree more Sam. Genuinely baffled why anyone would vote Tory after the last 14 years.

- er (3rd Jul 2024 - 12:34:10)
So if I vote for someone I really don't want, it may get rid of someone I don't particularly want anymore?
We're not really voting for us, we're just playing their game, the game of electing big parties.
Anyone who really and honestly loves democracy will demand proportional representation, where every vote counts, but the parties will never willingly give it up, we'll have to fight for it, does anyone else here actually care beyond the headlines and once in 5 years indignation?
Take party 'whips' for example, no parties MPs can be allowed to say anything that the party doesn't dictate, no matter how earnestly they or their electorate believe it, they don't work for us, they work for the party, political parties are therefore deceptive, anti democratic and dangerous in my opinion.
I'm not voting Lib Dem just because I'm annoyed at the Tories because I have my principles thank you very much, it's their game, not mine.

- MR (3rd Jul 2024 - 13:16:48)
Lib Dem’s have been in here before years ago that was a disaster then. The big issue is will the labour get in with a large majority if that happens then we are in for a beating this Labour Party is hell bent on changing all the rules to their advantage letting the unions run riot taxation going through the roof. So they need a large opposition to stop them the only way to do that is to get as many conservatives back in parliament as possible they are the only ones that can curb the rot .

Re: If you want to get rid of the Tories, vote Lib Dem
- M (3rd Jul 2024 - 13:43:47)
Democracy is about voting/choosing for who/what you think is best (no matter what the vote is about).
My issue with the OP and others argument is that you're not voting for what you think is best, but voting for something you don't want, a negative vote?
It's your right to vote how you wish but you're not voting for the MP you think will be best for our area....just to make sure that the Conservatives don't win the general election.
I think we all know Labour will be the next government, how big their majority will be is to be found out.
I would urge everyone to vote for the person they think best represents their views, and would make a good Member of Parliament for Farnham and Bordon, not a negative vote for an MP and party who not represent their views.

Voting for LibDem would be like voting for Michael Foot/Jeremy Corbyn - As a party they are even more dangerous than Reform.

Re: If you want to get rid of the Tories, vote Lib Dem
- J (3rd Jul 2024 - 15:33:54)
The LibDems are the only party of the big 3 who have Proportional Representation on their manifesto. So ironically by voting for them even though you don't want them as a whole, you may be closer to be able to fairly vote for who you actually want in the future of they are the main opposition.

- gareth j rees (3rd Jul 2024 - 15:40:01)
There has been no polling done in the new Farnham and Bordon seat.
On the yougov website it says the result they have is a projection based on the last election.
Those projections do not include any new housing.
Bordon alone has 5000 new housing dwellings since the last election.
The vote here is wide open. It's a 4 way split with everyone on the low 20%.
Vote Labour!

Gareth Jrees, after that offensive tirade you posted on this website not so long ago only to have it removed the following morning, NO WAY. Presumably your Labour Party seniors told you to have it removed but you certainly showed your true self.

So you want people to vote for the man that was in charge of the office that prosecuted the Sub Postmasters because he believed the lies given to him by the Post Office.

Amusing some of the attempts to reframe this by providing a definition of democracy etc. The only part that was actually true is “your free to vote for however you want”
I don’t want Tories, any of them, they have proven themselves with a track record so be terrible, I couldn’t care less if the candidate most likely to displace what I don’t want is a cat… all the local representative stuff is utterly pointless, your local mp is one person and if that person is a member of a failing party you have made a mistake by retaining a loser.
Ideally not 1 single member of the Conservative Party is left, as it will serve as a lesson to every party that we will not accept lies, that standards need to improve, and if that means our local MP is a cat, then so be it

The LibDem candidate doesn't live in this area. The LibDem candidate was the ONLY candidate in the area that felt the need to mention religion during his campaign.
Both are no-no's for me - regardless of the religion I might add.
And remember Sir Ed Davey is up to his eyeballs in the Post Office scandal. That's the legacy of the last time the LibDem's formed a coalition government in 2019.

Think you'll find that the Tory candidate mentioned religion just this last few days in a video on his Facebook page about how he's a devout Catholic.
Hmmm in my view that's not a good indicator of his character

@Grape - it has been mentioned in each of the Lib Dem flyers that came through my door.
I disagree (personally) with religion being involved in politics, full stop.

Re: If you want to get rid of the Tories, vote Lib Dem
- Local (4th Jul 2024 - 15:40:50)
Well it hardly matters if you agree or disagree with religion being mentioned in politics, 85% of the worlds population consider themselves religious, they have on average three times as many kids as the irreligious (so it's atheism that's in danger of dying out!) and they vote and have their concerns, so you'll have a tough time silencing them, even though our secular brothers and sisters do try so, bless you:)
Also, if we politicians couldn't (or shy'd away from) talking about religion that would lead to a discriminatory state that could itself lead to persecution, plus politicians know they tend to vote as a block on issues that affect them, in that sense they're no different to any other vocal group like LGBTQ+-= etc, politicians both pander to and fear in equal measures, because politicians won't give you anything unless you have a power base, first rule of governance!

How very disingenuous of the Tory candidate to be putting videos on his Facebook page saying not to vote for Khalil from Kingston.
How about Greg from Ealing?
He is still a councillor in Ealing, so hardly from the local area. I wonder how much time he really has for our constituency.
You can check this out here: ealing.moderngov.co.uk/mgUserInfo.aspx?UID=151
A little bit of honesty might help win votes!

Lib Dem’s rejected in Farnham and Bordon. Cry more.

Truth- Very well actually losing by 350 votes in a true blue selfish seat like this is quite an acheivement. Well done everyone who voted for a fairer society, nationally we made it, locally a little more work to be done.

We live in a democracy so I'm fine with the outcome.
Let's be honest, the nation has sent a clear message to all politicians that they could do a lot better.
I'll watch with interest.

@Pete - indeed, but there’s no prize for second place in an election.
It’s close, but the facts are that the Lib Dem candidate was rejected and lost.
Maybe he can develop an affiliation with another constituency for 2029 and try there instead? He seems to like trying his luck in different places while living in Crawley.

If it wasn't for the 6,217 people taken in by Nigel and his throw-back to the 1950's friends, the LDs would have won. The FT election predictor showed it as an LD gain.

Just shows that the people didn’t want the conservatives out they just want them to listen to the country and what people want.
But it’s back fired we now have a labour government so look out we all will be on our knees except for the public sector workers they will have a field day wages sky high. Union’s running riot.
You won’t be able to go to any city it will cost to much if there is any transportation . And you can’t drive there because of the huge tax on cars entering the city. A dark cloud has descended on one lovely country.

I too am a supporter of democracy. The people have chosen the Conservative candidate. So be it. However, it's worth noting that more than 60% of the people who bothered to vote in our constituency opted for a non-Conservative candidate.
Alex Just was a good candidate, but if a quarter of his supporters had chosen instead to vote tactically for the LibDem candidate, we would have been rid of the Conservatives here at last. Ah well, we very nearly succeeded but it wasn't to be. Maybe next time.
Our neighbouring constituency of North East Hampshire has changed to LibDem, contrary to earlier predictions, and many other nearby constituencies, namely Winchester, Eastleigh, Chichester, Surrey Heath, Woking, Guildford, Dorking and Horley, Horsham, Mid Sussex, Wokingham and Newbury are also now represented by a LibDem MP.
There have also been some switches to Labour, namely Portsmouth North, Aldershot, Bracknell and Basingstoke.
So, we have woken up to a very different political landscape from what we had yesterday. Now we wait and see..

Add all the Lib Dem seats to the Conservatives makes no difference at all to the Labour majority. As always a vote for Lib Dem was a wasted vote.
ps, As a lifelong Tory I am glad the Conservative Party took a good kicking this election. They have become an ill disciplined and corrupt monster, hopefully they will learn from this and sort themselves out for 2029
