Count down
- Rm (3rd Jul 2024 - 20:41:40)

Well all the shouting and promises have been made. Tomorrow we will find out. And then we will have to abide by the result and ether be very happy or miserable. And time will tell if the result was a good one . This great country usually weathers all the storms let’s hope we can go forward and prosper this time. Just hope we can retain our independence and sovereignty in the future.

Here here and well said, Scotland, N Ireland and Wales very much look forward to their independence and sovereignty as you said.

Whatever you think or support please make sure you vote, people died to give you all the right to choose so use it.
This area used to have such a large majority it was pointless but this time others could get in.
I don't care who you vote for just make sure you do.

No one died to give you the right to vote, that right was established in the1800’s and rightfully extended to woman in 1918. If Your reference to people having died to give you the right to vote is in any way related to any of the world wars your talking nonsense, the two things have zero relationship.

Also a local majority means nothing, nothing at all. Is the cabinet in Westminster whom runs the country, your local MP is only relevant if they are in that cabinet. If not they simply make up the numbers.

They have had a go, failed, goodbye

Sam, as usual, a little bit right...and wrong!

Voting up to 1918 was only for the rich substantial land owning classes, including women, but mainly men (who were the main land owners back then), along with latterly some industrialists from the towns and cities (the much sneered at nouveau rich), everyone looked down on everyone else in those good old days!

It wasn't in fact till 1918 that bloke over 21s got the vote, male suffrage. The 'Great' war, while not fought about voting rights was of course it's catalyst (industrial scale destruction of the aristocracy, their sons and male staff) meant that the government had little choice.

This was the catalyst for the female suffrage due to breakdown of the old norms and the increase in female heads of household, business owners etc, to demand parity with men. They subsequently got the same voting rights as men in 1928.

So there was actually only 10 years between men getting the universal vote and women, both were the natural result of war, not the reason for it..

That was the murder of some arrogant Archduke of somewhere or other in Croatia or Bosnia or something by some spotty commie teenage kid... it all seemed so important at the time, it was jolly well supposed to be over by by New Year with Christmas lunch in Berlin!

Looking at the world today, perhaps mankind and we can now add womankind, never learn and are destined to repeat history till the end!

Er, AF Said "people died to give you all the right to choose", do you really think people died to give us the right to vote?

Surely they died for completely different reasons, which may well have resulted in increased sufferage, but that is not why they died.

@ Jim you must be reading 'The Guardian' lately as they have been spouting similar views to yours :)
