Rise in homelessness
- Ricardo (12th Jul 2024  12:43:47)

There seems to have been a rise in homelessness in the local area. Every morning 2-3 homeless men can be seen wandering around the center of Liphook. Can anyone advise how this has been allowed to happen, has there been some no fault evictions?

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Adrian (12th Jul 2024  15:19:47)

Maybe anyone from night shift workers to those up to no good. The big camper van parked on the road by the Sainsbury’s recycling point is possibly a base housing workers. Nice smell of bacon in the air.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Realist (12th Jul 2024  16:50:26)

It may perhaps be a localised problem in Liphook due to the shortage of new house building, but as a country there is no excuse for anyone to be homeless, you can literally get on a boat from France having come from anywhere on Earth, they'll meet you half way in ships, bring you safely to shore and you'll be given decent accomodation in the UK that very same evening, if a country can be that welcoming to everybody, you can be pretty sure they are looking after their own people too, anything less would be a disgrace in a self respecting nation, there would be riots and indignation from all sides, so you can be sure we have a surplus of accomodation that the media is not telling us about and there are no homeless people here.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Kelly G (12th Jul 2024  17:18:58)

Yes Adrian I believe you may be correct with regards the camper van at the back of Sainsburys, there are some people who seem to live there. Is this legal?
Across from Sainsburys there is a local bicycle that the homeless men use frequently. I think they share it, use it and then pass it on to the next homeless person for convenience. I’m guessing this can’t be too sanitary l.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Richard (12th Jul 2024  18:31:07)

It is surprising to see homeless people around the local area. Why is it usually men that seem to homeless? Are women taken in easier to shelters etc? There is a kind lady at the roundabout by Sainsburys who feeds those down on their luck which is nice to see. Does she work with a registered charity, can anyone confirm as it would be nice to donate.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Dave (12th Jul 2024  21:08:17)

Hi Richard the lady runs a daddy bus to and from their temporary accommodation so they can visit their children. Very interesting of her as their are so many.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Richard (12th Jul 2024  22:52:53)

Hi Dave are you saying there’s a lot of daddy’s or a lot of children or simply both?
Awful to see homeless people struggling in this day and age. But god bless her for keeping so many daddy’s and kids going over the years.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- D (15th Jul 2024  08:19:37)

Richard, there always has been sex discrimination regarding local authority housing. A young female who finds herself the mother of several children (frequently by several different fathers) has a very good chance of being houses by the local authority. A male of similar age has zero chance. She can then go on to plead poverty because she has all these children to keep and get them fed for free by us the tax payer at these school breakfast clubs and holiday lunch clubs. No wonder the country is skint. Concerning the "daddy bus," presumably all the men return at the end of the working day?

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Kelly (15th Jul 2024  08:56:18)

Hi D no they’re not working at all. As per your post there are several different daddy’s and as the need to have a larger house is needed along comes another baby.
Under Labour this lifestyle will only be facilitated more and more.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- D (15th Jul 2024  10:56:09)

You're probably right, Kelly. But to be fair it was Mr. Cameron who made us feed the greedy, oops! needy during school holidays as well. I have no political bias here as I'm sick of both Labour and Conservative.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Kelly (15th Jul 2024  12:04:23)

Surely if these people can’t afford to feed their kids throughout the year there is a larger problem here. Public finances shouldn’t be wasted to feed the unplanned families from the free housing epidemic which seems to be plaguing society.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- D (15th Jul 2024  12:48:15)

I agree with you completely, Kelly. A generation seems to have evolved in this country totally incapable of doing anything for themselves. The state has to do everything for them.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- paulh (15th Jul 2024  13:36:56)

Have seen an increase in the number of 'camper vans' about, the big one in sainsburys, a transporter at the rec and another in the maltings. Dont think theres anything illegal about that but people are struggling.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Grape (15th Jul 2024  13:51:18)

Indeed a sign that many of us are struggling.
It is also the symptom of loss of law enforcement and of loosening the laws.
Authorities have not got what it takes to deal with offenders, offenders are emboldened, residents don't feel safe to deal with the offenders because they don't have the backing from the authorities. Perfect storm.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- D (15th Jul 2024  17:06:59)

People are always struggling. When you buy your first house you are struggling, when you get made redundant the first rime and are desperately seeking a job to keep that house you're struggling. It's called life and there was a time we just got on with it.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Kelly G (15th Jul 2024  17:22:26)

It is a ridiculous state of affairs when these people simply have another unplanned and unaffordable child so they can move into a larger house. Maybe a forced snip or tube tie at the GP surgery would be the best way forward for all involved.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Daisy (16th Jul 2024  06:48:44)

I very much doubt that the camper van belongs to a group of immigrants or homeless people. Has it ever occurred to all you that it could actually belong to a resident who lives on the estate. Get a grip of yourselves. What harm is it doing. Is it interfering with you.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Richard (16th Jul 2024  08:10:12)

Hi Daisy should you be parking your toilet on wheels on public roads? I’m guessing you also have a couch on your front lawn?
We all need to keep the area nice looking so we live in good community and parking camper vans on the side of the road as opposed to your driveway is not very community minded.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Joe (16th Jul 2024  13:28:22)

Richard I think the camper van referred to is parked in the Sainsburys car park as there are references to the smell of cooking bacon from it. There is more homelessness as there are a lot of campervans parked around industrial estates if you ever find yourself there.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Local (16th Jul 2024  14:11:51)

Can’t believe sainsburys would allow a campervan to park in their car park permanently. If a camper is taxed and insured it can park anywhere that’s a legal parking area on the road. Off public highway is a different matter though it’s down to the land owners there are laws about living in caravans and campers you can’t just stay anywhere.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Joe (16th Jul 2024  15:54:05)

It is up to Sainsburys to report to EHDC and get an eviction order going but it would be an expensive operation for one campervan they are probably hoping it will move soon.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Paul2 (16th Jul 2024  16:41:48)

There are 2 campers 'stealth camping' at Sainsburys. The large one tucked in against the hedge next to the house with all the windows covered.

The other is an illegally converted Ford Transit parked about 100m further up (outside the apartments). It's registered as a Class N1 (rigid body, commercial) but has been converted to a campervan. DVLA shows it as N1, meaning the owner has not reported it's change of use and triggering a higher rate of road tax (as a camper van it should be M1).

I have a suspicion they are both being used to house transient workers.

Please make sure to honk your horns when passing them.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Daisy (16th Jul 2024  16:45:47)

Hi Richard. Its parked in the car park where the delivery lorries go. If sainsburys had an issue with it, then I am sure they would trace the owner. I think it must belong to a resident of the estate. They may have asked sainsburys if its OK to park there. It really isn't any one else's business. Your all so fond of poking your noses in where it doesn't belong. Just get on with your own lives. And for your information i have not got a sofa or a matress, or any rubbish in my front garden. But if I did have it wouldn't be any of your business.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Daisy (16th Jul 2024  17:00:45)

Richard why don't you just report the campervan to the council if it bothers you so much. Or you could knock on the door and ask the owner. But I doubt your man enough to do that. It's easier for you to sit behind a keyboard.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Paul2 (16th Jul 2024  17:05:01)

@Daisy - If it's parked on Sainsbury's property, they have the right to address it. Local laws often prohibit camping in public spaces or streets. It does concern others if laws are broken. Ignoring these issues doesn't make them go away. Whether or not you have rubbish in your garden is irrelevant. Stick to the point.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Resident (16th Jul 2024  17:37:00)

As a Caravaner myself it’s completely out of order to park in a constricted area and it’s not legal to live in any form of vehicles on the highway. And the same goes for private land car parks etc that’s why travellers get moved on . If these vans are being lived in totally illegal. And if they are parked with out permission again illegal. It makes it so bad for campers that abide by the laws they get all tarred with the same brush. They should have their vehicles compounded.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Daisy (17th Jul 2024  15:08:13)

Paul2 I was actually answering Richard who seems to think I am the sort of person who has a sofa in my garden. Wind your neck in.

Rise in homelessness
- Kelly G (17th Jul 2024  15:27:40)

@ Daisy, That's a bit pointed, are presently checked into the Red Roof Inn? You and Aunt Flo seem to be swinging at everyone.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Paul2 (17th Jul 2024  15:49:28)

@Daisy - to me, "Wind your neck in" and to Dave 'Keyboard warrior"

Studies show that 40% of adults have experienced bullying on social media, which can lead to significant stress, anxiety, and mental health issues (source: UK Office for National Statistics).

Social media platforms are under increasing pressure to combat this behavior, with research indicating that online bullying can be just as harmful as face-to-face harassment.

Stick to the facts Daisy, drop the insults, and keep the discussion civil.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Daisy. (17th Jul 2024  18:36:49)

Paul 2. As I said before, if all you busybodies don't like the campervan then report it to the council. Its not rocket science is it. You all need to find something better to do with your lives. I hope the person who does own it leaves it there to rot. Then you will all have something to moan about. 🤣🤣🤣. It was still there today when I walked my dog. It's a nice camper. Maybe you are all just jealous.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- Paul2 (18th Jul 2024  12:06:38)

@Daisy - this isn’t about jealousy; it’s about respecting community standards and laws. If you have nothing constructive to add, maybe it’s you who needs to find something better to do.

Re: Rise in homelessness
- k (2nd Aug 2024  00:17:07)

you are all so desperately cruel it is unbearable. i am so ashamed of my country. have you nothing better to do than hate people who face struggle? please, educate yourselves. my god. get out of liphook, go and see the real world… homelessness is incredibly low compared to just about anywhere else. we are all such lucky people to even be sat here comfortably on a device talking about such things. there are too many people currently freezing outside without food or shelter. reality check!
