Cycling lane - Harry Donald Junior (31st Aug 2024  11:06:08) I was chatting with someone recently, and they mentioned hearing about a new cycle lane that’s supposed to be going through the square and extending all the way to Bordon town centre. Has anyone else heard about this? They said a council member mentioned it, but I’m curious if it’s true.

Re: Cycling lane - er (31st Aug 2024  14:03:29) The Headley Road is fairly narrow as it is, so I'd say it would have to be a narrow cycle lane, possibly just a painted white line, which are pretty useless to keep you safe when being overtaken at speed by people late for their very, very important appointments!

The vast majority seem to feel they are entitled to take precedence over all other road users and often over pedestrians on footpaths as well. It’s reached a point where the infrastructure demanded for their benefit needs to be funded so they should be taxed. And no, outside of cities they do not contribute anything to a better environment.

I'm not entirely sure how this will work, but it might involve making some roads one-way, like Midhurst Road and Headley Road. Does anyone have more details or insights to share?

Ok, I'll play along....I live very near the Headley Road, does anyone know when the major through routes are going to be turned into one way systems so cyclists can pass through more efficiently....

Just for being on his bike with his dad in a cycle lane. 2. My friend was run over by a truck while cycling, he had broken legs, pelvis, ribs and arms and had open-heart surgery performed by EMS on the road. By a miracle, he survived. He was a surgeon, on his way to work. 3. A colleague at work was hit by a car and killed (practically empty country road). He was a father and husband. None of these 'cyclists' who you hate felt any entitlement or arrogance. In fact, you've displayed your own bile and irrational hatred online and I hope the people around you are safe in your company. Cue the usual Daily Mail level of hatred now ....

Charlie- Bit of a generalist sweeping statement isnt it. Of course your arrogance probaly makes you assume thet you know the character of every cyclist in the country. Such a simplistic attitude.

Re: Cycling lane - M (2nd Sep 2024  16:43:53) As always there's opposing views and uneducated comments and hearsay so I thought I'd put Google to use as the original posted hadn't suppled any concrete proof of any proposals. I don't believe there are any concrete proposals to build any cycle routes between Liphook and Bordon..... or anywhere else. The only information that I found is this 20 year old consultation document by EHDC for a "Cycle Plan for East Hampshire". easthants.gov.uk/sites/default/files/documents/cycle-plan-2004.pdf I am not a cyclist, have no intention of becoming one (a car is so much drier, safer and more comfortable) and find those that do cycle on busy public roads a bit of a pain in the backside. I do, however, respect their choice and do my best to keep them safe. In the current economic climate I can see no way that any form of long distance cycle lanes will ever be provided in and around Liphook. The current government believe that can build 300000 house a year over the next 5 years (won't hold my breath on that one and where are these extra 300000 people that need a new house each year living now?) but they don't mention anything about providing much needed infrastructure let alone a cycle lane in rural Hampshire for 3 people to use each day. Good luck those that think it will happen, but I think I'll keep my car thank you!

Re: Cycling lane - Tax payer (2nd Sep 2024  17:06:26) So Pete as a driver you travel headly road and you think a cycle lane on that road would be safe. Don’t think so and the cost of putting it away from the road would be enormous and just for a few cyclists. Cycle lanes should be well away from traffic they just don’t mix. Unfortunately all the money raked in by government and local government from motorists is not spent on roads if it was we would have a fantastic road system with loads of cycle lanes. But still think cyclists should be taxed and made to have insurance. Yes I know some have but not many.

Re: Cycling lane - Joe (2nd Sep 2024  18:35:56) I personally do not hate cyclists they have rights like all road users - it is when they ride 2 abreast for miles and cause tailbacks instead of possibly occasionally pulling over into a lay-by or such like, so that cars can pass safely is when I get mildly irritated.

So it's being done for the new city of Bordon, the green city without a Trainline, this no doubt will tick a few boxes as they can now officially all commute to London by bike and train at Liphook😂😂😂 Would I use it? No, not if it's just a white line by the side of the road, too lethal Yes, if it's segregated from the road traffic, if it's continuous and not bitsy and stop start, which may be ok for the one off leisure ride but useless for daily commuting as a substitute for the car. So let's wait and see if they can do it properly, spending millions on real infrastructure, or will it just be some white paint, or is it all just a pipe dream?

Re: Cycling lane - Michael (3rd Sep 2024  17:57:43) Great idea. Have just come back from Netherlands and we are decades behind them in terms of transport infrastructure. A good safe cycle network is the way forward, the only problem is our stone age attitudes towards anything thats not a car.

Re: Cycling lane - D (3rd Sep 2024  19:55:03) I don't believe a word of this, how many bicycles do we see between Bordon and Liphook? Or anywhere round here? At the time of the pandemic the A359 between Shoreham and Brighton was cut in half with the inner lane made into a cycle lane. It's gone now because no one used it, and the local tax payers are still paying for it. Any cycle lane is a lot of money for something that is used only on sunny days, with the people screaming how important they are reverting to their cars on rainy days and in the winter.

The motor car is a more recent invention than the bicycle so it could be argued it is the cyclists who have a stone age attitude. The bicycle is a step back not a step forward. Given the horror stories we read on this website it would appear the bicycle is the most dangerous mode of transport ever.

As a side note, maybe if people were less obvious about their use of fake news and trying to insight conflict and disagreement we might all get along much more nicely, as it appears that is all you were after in the first place....Smile at people, say hi, have a chat about the weather with people,post about nice things and its amazing the responses you'll get.
