Hindhead Tunnel 40mph limit

Does anyone know why the Hindhead tunnel northbound has been limited to 40 mph for week after week?!
Nothing obvious going on. I don’t get it.
Any ideas?

They say it's because of irregular lighting, but like you I have absolutely no idea why it's taking so long to fix...
A few weeks ago they took the restrictions away for a couple of days, but then reinstated them...
I presume once they've finally fixed it, the southbound tunnel will be restricted?!

According to the National Highways website, they've been "experiencing intermittent issues with the traffic signals at the tunnel".
Work to fix this was supposed to be finished mid August....

If only cars had headlights to illuminate tunnels and dark roads!
