Radford Park Boardwalk - Dr Leslie Saward (13th Oct 2024 17:10:51)
I wish to express various concerns/observations about the current boardwalk project -
Muddy Paths
The existing pathways and lawns between The Maltings and Locke Rd alleys have been badly damaged by the contractor's dumper truck. The paths have become churned up, waterlogged and are potentially dangerous to walk along.
Sinking Boardwalk
A section of the boardwalk has already become bowed; ie it is starting to sink even before its complete. This is inevitable given the underground and overground streams plus spring. The area where the boardwalk is situated becomes flooded during the winter months. Also small sink holes appear during the year where the underground streams and spring are located. If the boardwalk sinks any further it will become dangerous to use and exceptionally expensive to repair. It would appear that an inadequate site survey was carried out prior to construction.
Muddy Start and Finish
The 70 metre boardwalk starts and end in soggy areas making it impossible to use for push chairs and and other small vehicles. Essentially the boardwalk is a cul de sac in a swamp of mud.
Maintenance and Repairs
Given the specialist bespoke construction of the boardwalk and associated materials, it will be expensive to maintain and repair. Thus it will become an unnecessary drain on council funds.
An Alternative Proposal
It would have been preferable to invest the boardwalk monies into improving the existing Radford Park paths.

To OP, thank you for sharing these informative observations. To Paul2, what a childish and pointless contribution!

Mark, yes it's an informative piece.
But why post it on social media without context or purpose?

If residents do have any concerns about the boardwalk being built in Radford Park, do please contact us at council@bramshottandliphook-pc.gov.uk. We have responded to the resident above and are happy to share our reply if there are other concerns.
Please be assured that all the necessary consents, permits and permissions were granted before we started work.

It’s a version of crowd sourced moaning about something in the hope someone else will take up the job of reporting it to the correct people.
Wouldn’t surprise me if someone requests an ambulance on this forum rather than picking up the phone and dialing 999

It's a ridiculous project anyway. A better idea would have been to invest the money in the current path between the maltings and the the field so that people can actually use it in normal footwear outside of the 3 weeks a year when its not a muddy mess.
