Mah Jong
- Tracy rowe (25th Oct 2024  10:18:33)

I have inherited a lovely Mah Jong set but don't know how to play. Are there any interested people out there keen to learn alongside me?
Equally, any experienced players who want to help teach newbies most welcome. Otherwise it will be learning via Google!

I too have a lovely old bone and bamboo set. We used to play Classical Chinese Mah Jong, but haven't played for several years and have forgotten how to play - although the basic game was pretty simple, tactical play took some skill and I recall that the scoring is very complicated. We found it took ages working out all the scores, so my husband wrote a computer programme to calculate the scores!

There are numerous different versions of the game, each with their own sets of rules. I see that the Fernhurst group plays Hong Kong Mah Jong, which I think has some different rules from Classical Chinese.

To play a full game, playing all four winds, often
took us several hours. We used to allow 6 hours for game play and have a meal break halfway through.
