Pigeons
- Anne (5th Nov 2024 15:28:54)
We have pigeons that have made their home under our solar panels, which is both noisy but also creating a lot of mess.
Does anyone know how we can have them removed, preferably alive and well, and have the solar panels ring fenced to stop more coming?

Pigeons are an increasing problem, their numbers seem to be increasing at an alarming rate. We need a cull!

Hi!
Just wanted to let you know that pigeons nest all year round, and if they already have eggs or babies, it is a legal offense to disturb the nest (and it’s also simply not a nice thing to do). For more information, visit this page: rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/helping-birds-and-wildlife/birds-in-the-roof
The good news is that pigeons grow very fast, so you’ll be able to board it up once the babies have left. :)
Thank you for caring!
Best,
Adel

What would we, simpletons, do without the righteous people telling us what is a nice thing to do and what is not?
The RSPB refers to wild birds: In England pigeons are feral, which is not the same as wild.
Feral pigeons are known pest/vermin, damaging structures, being a nuisance, compete against wild birds, and pose risk to human health.
Why can't people just be reasonable, be kind where possible, or take necessary action when common sense dictates?

Disneyfication of all life. Same with people feeding foxes!!!! The badger brigade are the worst though.

Sorry to hear my comment upset you, Grape (I am not). Pigeons *are* wild birds and have the same legal protections as any other non-invasive species in the UK - Google is free.
You’re right that they’re feral, as they were once abandoned by humans. It’s interesting you focus on pigeons competing with other “wild” birds when that’s not the main reason bird populations are in decline (cough cough, habitat loss due to human activity). I could address every piece of misinformation in your comment (yes, you’re more likely to pose a danger and health risk to pigeons than they are to you), but I won’t waste either of our time. I’ll just say it’s quite unkind of you to call yourself a simpleton.
Wishing you a lovely day, and sending all my love and kindness to you.
Adel
Let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like refined!

"Well done" Adel,
You've turned the subject of this thread into your own little gripe against Grape - who, BTW seems to deal better with disinformation on Google and comments on this chat than you do.
I hope your theatrical couch is not Pigeon couch.

Oh my goodness Adel, you’re so virtuous; almost makes me feel guilty about enjoying pigeon pie! Still there is always a nice venison or veal steak to cheer an old carnivore like me.
