Liphook Carnival 2024
- Steve Cooke (16th Nov 2024 09:18:04)
Good to see members of the carnival committee engaging on Talkback. I have a simple question
How much money did this years carnival make for charity please?

Mr Cooke! How are you Sir? 😊
Thanks for reaching out.
Twas never my intention to engage on talk back as I'm not certain I can maintain consistency given there's no notification of reply without physically logging on. I was originally drawn in to respond to a negative comment, or as us Vets say - 'shots fired' (which is rule number one on what NOT to do) 😅
But here we are.
To answer your question -
I am pleased to say the carnival raised £2900 via the buckets on carnival night.
Although not a record breaking sum, it's money straight back to our local charities.
We'll be announcing the distribution of funds in our February AGM at the social club, which of course all residents are welcome to.
I'll be sure to leave you a pint behind the bar 🫡
Kind Regards
Samuel Hawkins

Thank you Sam. Are you able to disclose how much the event cost to put on please? I know that in recent years it was a worry that the books didn’t balance, hopefully this year with the better organisation the event no longer runs at a loss?

Steve Cooke your fishing hope you’re not one of those trying to stop the carnival. If it makes a loss we will have to do something about it get some more sponsors we can’t lose the carnival now that it’s back up and running. So perhaps all people that keep putting the knife in should support instead. It doesn’t Matter if it doesn’t break even this lovely community of ours will think of something. More donations from businesses perhaps.

Hello again, Mr. Cooke.
Thank you for your interest in the carnival’s operations. We’re incredibly grateful for the community's ongoing support.
While I’m unable to disclose the intricacies of our costings due to ethical obligations and commercial agreements with certain sponsors, I can share that our funds are in constant need of replenishment as we often break even. Our main priority is ensuring all donations collected during the carnival directly support local charities, which means we rely on sponsorships and community events, like the Fun Day, to cover operational costs.
Looking ahead, we're working towards a more business-minded approach within the committee. This shift will allow us to plan further in advance and ultimately increase the carnival’s sustainability and benefit to the community.
Best regards,
Samuel Hawkins
