Bypassing Planning Laws, (but still no bypass!)
- er (12th Dec 2024 - 15:08:32)

Now that Labour have torn up most of the power of local councils to review big developments and will bypass local planning committees completely in their rush to build 1.5 million new homes for the rapidly expanding population, do the people of Liphook think this will be a good outcome for the local area?

Personally, I would welcome the building of hundreds, if not thousands of new homes in the area. Economically it would be good for the area and many local businesses will benefit.

Like the posting which appears now to have been removed small employers will only take staff on if they agree to lose any workers rights by going self employed as a sub contractor. I was very surprised when the new government altered the law to give employment rights from day one because it takes at least 3 months to judge if an employee is going to suit the position or even have the skills for it.

Steve Cooke,
As Rayner wants affordable housing built surely you must be worried about a rise in anti-social behaviour you claim is due to such housing.

Joe whilst you say it "takes at least 3 months to see if person is suitable"etc, many big employers take 6 months of what they call a probationonary period, prior to the post being made permanent.

That's what will potentially change, employers will be "stuck" with staff who amongst other issues are unfit, unsuitable, incompetent etc, and have to enter into a lengthy and costly process to replace them.

It'll be interesting to watch what happens next, more rigour and robust recruitment processes for sure from the outset, but those employers with a high turnover or staff shortages because of a skills shortage eg NHS will undoubtedly suffer.

Rayner for certain should be replaced she is out of her depth.

@jon.valid observation although if sufficient wealth is created by all the new houses I will take the money and run

I get it.
We need to build houses for people coming over here to build the houses.
Right ?

I do understand the term probationary period- I think though this new change will affect employers and employees alike but not in a good way. JI think too many larger employers took on staff and made them redundant just before the time kicked in where any redundancy pay was due. Even bigger firms now will hire more staff on a self employed basis only and get round it somehow.

I think all working people should be self employed and deal with all their own taxes etc and health insurance would make things much simpler it would relieve the employer of so much paperwork.

If you want to see an example of an over development disaster then just visit Bordon Whitehill.

Thousands of new builds with no infrastructure.

Currently one large supermarket, one doctors surgery, no banks.

Fact,

Developers have conned buyers.

Example, promotional brochure from McCarthy Stone promotes Southampton and Reading as nearby everyday shopping centers, Others misleadingly have pictures of Frensham Ponds and Farnham.as if part of Bordon.

Fact

Many purchasers of new builds trying to move away as 'Nothing is here' are now in negative equity.

Bordon's Bordon no matter how many new houses are built.
